| The scoop: Smugglers' walks, wikes and hikes are one of the most popular components of the FamilyFest Vacation Package. There are many different hikes for a variety of hiking interests and capabilities. (For the uninitiated, Smugglers' offers hikes, walks and wikes, with a wike providing a moderate to demanding level of exercise in an outing of up to 3 hours duration.)
The Village Intro Wike is of great interest to guests because it provides a good overview of Village amenitities and facilities, including the Living Machine, the Resort's environmentally friendly wastewater processing plant. For history buffs, the Resort offers the Sterling Historical Wike. On this outing, guests learn the fascinating history behind the early settlement of Sterling, originally located on the rugged mountain slope above the Resort.
Teens can head to one of the two teen centers to hang out during the day and enjoy games, Playstation and XBox, Internet access, movies, and fun with new friends. In the evening from 9:00 to 10:00 pm, teen programs include such activities as the Nightspiker DJ Dance Party, Party in the Park with volleyball, horseshoes and more at Notchville Park, and a Dodgeball Tourney.
A Family Adventure Planner makes it easy for families to plan their stay at Smugglers’ and try as many activities as they want. The Planner identifies programs by age-appropriateness, making it simple to select things to try. The free Planners are available at the Funmeister’s Clubhouse and the auxiliary desk across from 3 Mountain Outfitters.
The buzz: "Our FamilyFest package contains many inclusions—of which children’s camps are probably of most value to parents—but we urge families to check out our Resort Information Guide for programs like geocaching or llama trekking that might be of special interest." –Bob Mulcahy, Smugglers’ president
"As America’s Family Resort, we're always trying new activities that appeal to different interests and age groups so that all of our guests have the opportunity to create special vacation memories." –Marge McIntosh, program development director
