Fall 2007

Eco-Adventurers Can Explore the Outdoors and Learn about the Environment at Smugglers' Notch Resort

•The Eco-Adventure Package emphasizes outdoor participation and environmentally based learning
•Autumn package rates are the lowest rates of the year

The Scoop:
In northern Vermont, Smugglers’ Notch Resort hopes to lure guests with its new Eco-Adventure Package and its other new activity-based stay-to-play packages. Each hinges on a theme in a three or four night format from September 3 – October 8, 2007, the lowest rate period of the year.

Green-minded travelers will appreciate the inclusions in the Eco-Adventure Package: a guided Segway Tour and a two hour Segway rental, an evening guided Wildlife Watch Canoe Trip, a two hour canoe or kayak rental, and a guided hike called Where Does the Water Go?.

In the guided Segway Tour participants learn how to ride the two-wheeled, self-balancing personal transportation devices during a run on Smugglers’ walking paths and Nordic trails. The Segways operate on rechargeable battery packs, produce no emissions, and roll along quietly. When they choose, guests may explore further on their own with the additional two hour rental that is included.

For the Wildlife Watch Canoe Trip guests paddle with a guide along the calm waters of the nearby Lamoille River past many varieties of wildlife such as ducks, heron and turtles. They are also entitled to a canoe or kayak rental that gives the joy of self-exploration.

When the Eco-Adventurers join the Where Does the Water Go? walk, one of the Resort’s environmental staff explains water runoff and its threat to the environment, then leads guests to various natural stormwater treatment systems throughout the Resort and offers implementable water conservation tips visitors can take home with them. In other open hikes the hiking guides mix local historical lore with information about indigenous plants and the seasonal changes that affect them. They discuss animals that inhabit the surrounding forests, particularly the black bear and its autumnal dining and denning habits.

The Eco-Adventure package and each of the new packages combine special activities together with mountainside Resort Village condominium lodging, daily guided nature hikes, pools and waterslides (indoors after September 18th), evening entertainment for adults and families, tennis, volleyball, movies, skate park and Disc Golf. The other new fall packages include: The Great Golf Escape, See Vermont & Beyond, Creativity, Relaxation and Adventure.

Autumn rates range from $231 to $499 per person for a three night stay in a studio accommodation, depending on the package chosen. Longer and shorter stays are also available.
