Smugglers' Notch Vermont - Press Releases
Smugglers’ Notch Resort is top Eastern resort overall and #1 for family vacations in annual SKI Magazine Resort Guide rankings
In the 2013/2014 SKI Magazine resort survey completed by the magazine’s readers, Smugglers’ Notch Resort was ranked as the top Eastern resort overall. In addition, for the 15th year, Smugglers’ was selected by magazine readers as #1 for family vacations.
Commenting on how Smugglers’ achieved the number one ranking overall, resort managing director and owner Bill Stritzler says, "We decided many years ago that we would focus on family excellence delivered by very special employees. We realize now that our desire to be excellent in all the things our family guests expect, from fun and memorable family activities to great vacation values, has resulted in becoming number one overall. Doing a great job for families really means that we are doing a great job for all."
Smugglers' is ranked in the top 10 in 15 of the 20 categories covering aspects of the ski experience from accessibility to weather. Stritzler notes, "Many of Smugglers' rankings – like service, family programs, activities and character - are a product of the work of the people who serve guests of the resort on and off the mountain. Members of our Smugglers' family, whether making snow or checking in guests or performing any number of guest services, bring our “We Want You Back” ethos to their job daily."
Smugglers' also placed in the top 10 in the East for the challenge and variety of its terrain, grooming, and snow. Smugglers’ three mountains and 78 trails feature 1000 acres of terrain for all abilities, from the novice skiers and riders enjoying Morse Mountain's gentle runs to the extreme experts taking on Madonna Mountain's gnarly double and triple black diamond Fab Five trails.
Two seasons' worth of snowmaking investments are part of Smugglers' continuing commitment to providing a customer-pleasing ski & ride experience. This winter, Smugglers' is adding 100 high efficiency tower snow guns to serve intermediate and advanced terrain on Sterling and Madonna Mountains. Two tower fan guns will enhance coverage on Smugglers' Sir Henry's learning area and the Sterling base. Last winter, an investment of over $1,000,000 in snowmaking brought 150 high efficiency tower guns and a new electric compressor to Smugglers'. Guns were positioned on selected intermediate trails on Sterling Mountain and Madonna Mountain, and on beginner trails on Morse Mountain. The new snowmaking enhancements allow more snow to be made at a wider temperature range, improving early and late season coverage with greatly reduced energy costs.
