Smugglers' Notch Vermont - Press Releases
Winter 2015 - 2016
ArborTrek Canopy Adventures at Smugglers' Notch Resort offers unique Winter zip line experience
ArborTrek Canopy Adventures, Vermont's first zip line canopy tour, offers a thrilling flight through the trees as participants take in dramatic mountain views during their hillside descent from tree platform to tree platform. The zip line canopy tour is open to Resort guests, day visitors and groups for year-round use.
Following a mountain brook from high above Smugglers' Notch Resort Village, the zip line canopy tour descends through mature stands of hemlock, white birch, and sugar maple. Scenic lookout and tree platforms positioned high in the forest canopy yield stunning seasonal views of Smugglers' Notch Resort, Mount Mansfield, and Vermont's Green Mountains. Winter visitors enjoy a tour with eight zip lines ranging from 150 to 1000 feet, two suspension bridges and two rappels. Group tours of 20 or more people can also choose from a tour including six zip lines ranging from 150 to 1000 feet, two suspension bridges and one rappel, or three zip lines ranging from 100 to 650 feet and one rappel.
In keeping with the Resort's commitment to environmental stewardship through nature-focused programs that combine learning and fun, Smugglers' canopy tour incorporates information presented by the tour guides about the local flora and fauna, ecology and natural history.
"The zip line canopy tour has certainly given our guests an especially memorable opportunity to enjoy the breathtaking terrain around the Resort," notes Bill Stritzler, the Resort's managing director. "ArborTrek's focus on education and responsible environmental management of their canopy tour projects is a perfect match for Smugglers' own ongoing environmental stewardship initiatives." The Resort's environmental efforts focus on habitat protection, solid waste and wastewater management, energy efficiency and education.
The year-round zip line canopy tour is just one of Smugglers' extensive seasonal outdoor experiences that thrill families. In the Winter, these include skiing and snowboarding on three mountains, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing. In the Summer, outdoor adventures include geocaching; a Via Ferrata hiking, climbing and ropes course adventure; a high ropes challenge course; and an adventure camp for children featuring kayaking, bouldering, and other activities.
"The tour provides Smugglers' guests with a highly engaging family adventure with opportunities to soar among the trees, experience wild places, learn about the environment and create lasting memories," says Michael Smith, President of ArborTrek Canopy Adventures. "Our goal of educating, entertaining and inspiring through small group adventure experiences is very much in alignment with the mission of Smugglers' Notch Resort."
