Misty Mountain

Dec, 31, 2013Rockin’ Ron for Hugh. Like Gandalf, our Snowmakers are wizards. Their magic potion is the white powder we ski and ride on. This is a view of today’s snowmaking on Sterling Mountain from the Midway trail which traverses Morse and Madonna Mountains. The picture was taken near the snowmaking reservoir (which our summer guests known as Rumrunner’s Hideaway). Although it was a tad nippy and the conditions were fast, I still had to take a few runs. You might say I enjoy skiing so much that I can’t kick the hobbit.

P.S. For you J.R.R. Tolkien fans, we also have a gladed trail on Madonna called the Shire.

Ski and Ride Smuggs!

Dec. 29, 2013 ski and ride blogI was a single rider on the Madonna I lift today and I was paired up with a nice woman from the Burlington area. We were talking during the lift ride. It did not take long to realize that both us have been skiing and riding at Smuggs for a long time. She told me that she started skiing here when she was just two years old. She now is a mother and her children learned to ski and ride here at Smuggs also. I told her that I learned to ski here when I was a kid and how great it is to have my kids learning to ski here too. She told me that when it comes to Smuggs she is a “lifer”. I would have to say that I’m a “lifer” too!

Family fun

Dec. 27, 2013 family and view blogToday the whole Johnson family got to take a few runs together today. We all skied on Morse this morning with our youngest child Hayleigh. She had a wonderful time skiing with her older brother and sister. Hayleigh took a nap after lunch, so the rest of the Johnson family skied Midway to the Upper Mountains. We were excited to see the Madonna II  lift operating. We all enjoyed the snowmaking whales on Lower FIS. We celebrated with a hot chocolate before skiing back to the Village.
