World Famous Cookie Race

cookie race

The Cookie Race is always so much fun for the kids and the parents.  The kids get to show off what they learned at our Snow Sport University and of course they get a cookie.  The atmosphere is festive with the Friendly Pirate announcing the name and age of the different racers with Mogul Mouse to greet them at the finish.

We received 8 inches of new snow in the past week and we are also expecting another 2 inches tonight. We plan to make snow tonight on Lower Chilcoot and Lower FIS.

Birch Run Terrain Park

We have had a wonderful start to the season with over five and a half feet of natural snowfall so far!  The forecast is calling for up to 7 inches of additional snow by Friday, which could open more terrain for this weekend.  It is hard to believe that it is not even winter yet! The coverage and conditions have just been great.

Birch Run Terrain Park

dec. 14 birchToday I did the 3 mountain tour. I started on Madonna Mountain with a cruiser down Upper Chilcoot to Link. I had fun making GS turns on the groomed terrain. I also skied Upper FIS to Lower Doc’s which was fantastic. I made a run on Sterling and stopped by the Birch Run Terrain Park. It was fun to watch a group of skiers and riders who were going through the park. They made a train and hit the features one after another. I headed to Morse Mountain in the afternoon. I had a blast with my 3 kids and some of their friends. They really enjoyed going through the school house and the powder filled glades.

Winter Wonderland

doc powThe Madonna I lift opened today! At the beginning of this week we had 2 lifts operating with 14 trails open. Today we had 4 lifts operating with 62 trails open, including Freefall, Robin’s Run, Upper Madonna Liftline, and the Black Hole. My first run of the day was Upper FIS to Lower Doc’s. I was on cloud 9 as my skis floated silently through the deep powder.

Skiing and riding on all 3 mountains.

hugh blogThe Madonna II lift opened today and we plan to open Madonna I tomorrow. We now have 44 trails open with terrain for all ability levels. We received new snow for the past 4 days and the conditions are great. I took a few runs this morning with my wife Harley on Sterling. We had a wonderful time on her favorite run which is Harvey’s Hideaway to Full Nelson. I went skiing on Madonna II this afternoon and found tons of powder stashes. The forecast calls for a couple more inches of new snow tonight which will freshen things up for tomorrow.

18 inches of new snow in the past 4 days!

KyleThe conditions are just fantastic! I had a great time on Upper Exhibition this morning with my good friend and Ski Patroller Mike Duncan. We really enjoyed the light fluffy snow on top of the heavier snow that we received on Tuesday night and into early Wednesday. The snow became lighter in the afternoon and stayed that way all night. In this photo is my brother in law Kyle and he loved the fresh snow in Highlander Glades. This weekend we plan to have top to bottom skiing and riding on all 3 mountains with the Madonna I chairlift operating.

Jumping for joy

air blogWe received 11 inches of new snow in the past 24 hours and 13 inches in the past 2 days. We almost doubled our trail count in one day. We now have 31 trails open with terrain for all ability levels. The 8 inches of new snow that we received overnight was a heavy snow that made for a wonderful base. The snow that we were receiving by the end of the day was nice and light. We received 3 inches of new snow in 2 hours this afternoon. I did not want to stop skiing because the conditions just kept getting better.

Snowmaking Whales on Lower Madonna LIftline

whalesThe temperatures have been just wonderful for snowmaking. I was really surprised with the amount of snow that we made in the past 24 hours.  As you can see from this photo the snowmaking whales are pretty big.  We have also been making snow on Garden Path so that we can open Morse Mountain from the top in the near future.  The forecast also calls for a storm of snow and mixed from Tuesday through Thursday with up to 8 inches of accumulation possible.
