Keep it coming

Today was one for the books. Yesterday we had 31 trails open, and now we have 72 trails open! It was snowing very hard this morning, with 1 to 2 inches of accumulation in an hour. This, along with some wind, made for some whiteout conditions early. There were free refills all day long! I got fresh tracks on all 3 mountains. Snow Snake was my favorite on Morse. Full Nelson was the top pick for Sterling, and the Black Hole was my blue ribbon winner for Madonna. It was hero snow, and you could not go wrong today! We received 6 inches of new snow overnight and 15 inches in the past 24 hours. We could see another 4 to 8 inches of snow overnight. Tomorrow’s forecast is periods of snow with 1 to 3 inches of accumulation possible, breezy, with a high of 36 degrees at the base and 30 degrees at higher elevations. Tomorrow, we plan to have 4 lifts operating: Madonna I, Sterling, Mogul Mouse’s Magic, and Sir Henry’s Glider. 32 trails will be groomed for tomorrow, including Drifter, Snow Snake, and Smugglers’ Alley, for a total of 123 acres of freshly groomed terrain. Surface conditions are powder and packed powder with average base depths of 12 to 40 inches. Rest up tomorrow is going to be another great day!

Sunshine Surprise

Rockin’ Ron for Hugh. The forecast said increasing clouds… well, they didn’t increase. It was a Sunshine Surprise Day. The 22 groomed trails were skiing great, and some natural snow trails opened around midday! Tomorrow, the Madonna I Lift is back online, which will bring our trail count to 30. All 30 trails will be groomed. SNOW ALERT: 8-18 inches forecasted for Wednesday into Thursday night! Ski U soon.

It was a nice surprise and my good “fortune” to ride the lift and take some runs with my friend and long-time Smuggler, Mike, from New Jersey. His 3 girls all learned to ski here! This is not his family’s normal week – they’re here through Monday for the Solar Eclipse.
Charles (of Madonna I Lift fame), Pippa, and Nilu make a “foray” on skis on Morse Mountain.
Christina aka “Eena” and Discovery Camp kids celebrate Tutu Tuesday.

Mountains of adventure and mountains of fun

Today was an amazing spring day on the slopes. Upper FIS was groomed full-width last night, and it was fantastic today! A nice, long, smooth, steep pitch covered in corn snow does not disappoint. Everything was skiing and riding great, but Upper FIS was my favorite today. We have one more day of mild temperatures before the snow starts to fly again. There is a winter storm watch starting on Wednesday and going through Thursday night with a foot or more of new snow! Tomorrow, we plan to have 3 lifts operating: Sterling Lift, Mogul Mouse’s Magic Lift, and Sir Henry’s Glider. Mogul Mouse’s Magic Lift will open at 9 am. The Madonna I Lift will be closed tomorrow, and we plan to reopen it on Wednesday for the rest of the week. We will have 26 trails open tomorrow with terrain for all ability levels. 22 trails will be groomed for tomorrow, including Snow Snake, Sam’s Run, Smugglers’ Alley, and Thomke’s Express, for a total of 80 acres of freshly groomed terrain. Surface conditions are machine groomed and spring conditions with average base depths of 6 to 32 inches. It is sunny and 38 degrees at the summit of Sterling with winds of 0 to 5 mph. Tomorrow’s forecast is partly sunny skies early with increasing clouds throughout the day, with a high of 50 degrees at the base and 43 degrees at higher elevations.
