Ski Patrol

phot blogThis morning I rode the Madonna I lift with the Ski Patrol to check lift and trail conditions. We were talking about all the snow that we have received in the past week and how good the conditions are. In fact we received 31 inches of new snow in the past week. The skis that you see in the photo are all for powder. I want to take a second to thank our ski patrol for all they do. They are always here for us from milk run to sweep everyday!

Yummy, yummy, yummy – Vermont in the tummy!

Feb 18, 2014 VT Food 2Rockin’ Ron for Hugh. Ski Vermont was here today promoting Vermont Specialty Food Day by spotlighting world famous VT products from Cabot Cheese, Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream, and Green Mountain Coffee. Also offering samples for our guests were Cacao Matteo Chocolatier (sweets, dude!), Kimball Brook Farm with organic milks and creams, Vermont Smoke and Cure Real Sticks made from turkey, Butternut Mountain Farm with sugar on snow, and It’s Arthur’s Fault! with sauces, marinades, syrups, and dry rubs.To quote Fergie, which I don’t do often, it was “tasty-tasty”.

P.S. Teo (pictured on the left) of Cacao Matteo Chocolatier was one of the main organizers of the first Extreme Skiing Challenge, the second one is coming up on Sunday, March 9th.

Doc Dempsey’s

It was clear overnight and the temperature dropped down a little bit. The sun came out this morning and warmed us up. I had a good time today looking for powder stashes and good sunlight for photos. Pictured here is Brooks having fun in the glades on Madonna Mountain. Tuesday February 18 is Vermont Specialty Food Day in the Village Courtyard from 10:30 am till 2:30 pm. Try Liz Lovely 100 percent natural cookies, Kimball Farms milk and chocolate milk, delicious Cabot Cheese, Vermont Smoke & Cure meats, Green Mountain Coffee, Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream and maple products from Butternut Farm! My good friend Matteo of Cacao Matteo Chocolatier will also be there with Cassis Truffles, Maple Crème Leaves, Cranberry Orange Bark, and Hard Cider Caramel. He lives and makes his chocolates here in Cambridge, Vermont. I have been lucky enough to sample his chocolates and they are fantastic!

Fresh snow and sunshine

ken liftlineWe received 2 inches of new snow overnight and 23 inches in the past 3 days. The skies cleared up and the sun came out this afternoon. It was a beautiful day with fresh snow and sunshine. I had a wonderful day skiing with our friends from Ottawa. We skied in the trees most of the day and we found some fantastic snow. We also enjoyed the soft moguls on Upper Exhibition. This photo is my friend Ken enjoying some of the fresh snow.

Great conditions

Justin powder blogWe received 20 inches of new snow in the past 2 days. This morning I was lucky enough to go on the Cat Trax Fresh Trax Tour up Madonna Mountain. I skied Doc Dempsey’s and it was wonderful. I headed down Gary B’s to get back to the Village but when I saw all the powder in Bermuda I had to jump in. I took my time and found many fresh turns. It was another fantastic day on the slopes of Smuggs. Pictured here is my good friend Justin enjoying some powder on the side of Father Bob’s.

Powder Day!

matt from Maine.JPG blogToday was easily one of the best days of the season. We received 12 inches of new snow last night and another 6 inches during the day. It was wonderful the way all the tracks just kept filling in. Most of the schools were closed today, so everyone was out on the hill enjoying the fantastic powder everywhere. There is more snow in the forecast for tomorrow and also on Tuesday. It is going to be a great weekend! The picture you see here is my friend Matthew from Maine enjoying the white fluffy stuff.

Another beautiful day at Smuggs

drifter caitlan blogToday was clear, calm, and cool. The sunlight bouncing off the snow covered trees made them look like they were turned on. I rode the Madonna I chair lift to take in the amazing views from the summit. Many people had their cameras out capturing the special moments. I stayed on top for a while getting photos from different angles. This photo was taken on Upper Drifter by the fence. I would have to say that Upper Drifter is definitely one of the best scenic trails at Smuggs.

Ski-lightful und Snowboard-dacious

Feb 11, 2014 Upper DrifterRockin’ Ron for Hugh. 5 year old Rebecca from CT said “Walk on, Walkin’ Juan”. Molly from SSU said her new favorite word “Fab-u-loso”. Shay from SNAP essayed “awesome-possum”. Peter from F-L-A boasted “beaut-o-mous”. Marcela from Wyndham offered “feliz-tastic”. Well, after skiing on Upper Drifter (pictured here – looking up from the first hairpin turn) I wanted to shout “splen-diferous, shred-alicious, and un-be-flyin’-lievable”!!! I love Upper D and today reminded me of my second year at the Resort (back in the 90’s) when I had a GREAT day with Stacy from IT and two other co-workers. You can quote me as saying “ski-lightful und snowboard-dacious”.
