The Usual Suspects

Dale & Darcy
Dale & Darcy – longtime and frequent skiers. They are also talented musicians.

Rockin’ Ron for Hugh. Despite the date on the calendar, conditions are GREAT! Therefore, many of the usual suspects were on the slopes. It’s always fun to hang out with Darcy & Dale and talk tunes and trails. At the Rumrunner-Black Snake intersection we conferred with Blinky and Dr. John, and their suggestion was Harvey’s to Full Nelson, and good advice it was.

LIFTS & TRAILS

This Saturday and Sunday both Madonna I and Sterling will be operating with 50+ trails open for intermediates and experts. Expect spring conditions. We will be closed Monday, April 15th – Friday, April 19th and then RE-OPEN next weekend. On Saturday, April 20th we plan to operate both Madonna I and Sterling. On Sunday, April 21st, only the Sterling Lift will be running (loading for the Easter Sunrise Service is from 6:00 am – 6:30 am).

Sunday, April 21st

sunriseserviceEaster Summit Sunrise Service

On Easter Sunday, conditions permitting, the Sterling lift will transport attendees up the mountain free of charge to participate in a non-denominational service and Easter message by a local minister. Lift loading begins at 6:00 am and ends promptly at 6:30 am. No experience with riding the chairlift is necessary. Following the service, guests may ski or snowboard to the base area or ride the lift back down the mountain.

Please note: The service is held outdoors. All participants are advised to dress very warmly for the much cooler and windier conditions typically found on the mountaintop and for riding the lift. Be prepared to walk in the snow, warm and waterproof boots are recommended, from the lift unloading station to the gathering spot about 200 yards away.

Parking is available in any of the resort’s upper mountain lots. For information or questions regarding the service, please call 802-793-7095 or 802-644-8572. The service will not take place in the event of inclement weather. Any changes to this event will be posted here. We hope you’ll join us for this special event!

Virginia to Vermont

3 mtn glades

Liza and Julia in 3 Mountain Glades.

Rockin’ Ron for Hugh. As I was leaving Patrol and heading to MI, I heard my name being called. It was my friends Liza and her daughter Julia from Virginia. They are 2nd and 3rd Generation Smugglers who vacation here in the summer and winter. Liza and her siblings learned to ski on Morse, Madonna, and Sterling mountains, and now it’s her kids’ turn (or turns, if you will). Julia was telling me about taking lessons with Matt McCawley, himself a 2nd generation Smuggler, being the son of Squatch and Judy. Matt successfully challenged her to do Black Diamond trails and gave her an appreciation of the glades. It was a blast taking runs with them!!

LIFTS & TRAILS

For Wednesday we plan to have top to bottom skiing and riding on all 3 mountains with 4 lifts – including MI – operating and 63 trails open!
