We have top to bottom skiing and riding on all 3 mountains with all 8 lifts operating and 76 out of 78 trails open. We plan to be 100 percent open again once conditions soften up tomorrow. 47 trails have been groomed for today that’s 161 acres of freshly groomed terrain. Today’s forecast is flurries early then skies becoming partly sunny with temperatures between 14 and 28 degrees. Black Hole, Freefall, Robin’s Run work road, and Madonna Liftline will have a delayed opening from Upper FIS traverse.

The Burton Riglet Park has been moved from the top of Sir Henry’s Learning Park to behind the Meeting House at the base of the Village Lift. There is also a new beginner terrain area next to the Burton Riglet Park. This is a fantastic place for kids to learn, because it’s just so much fun. There are many features and tools that the Instructors can use to teach the kids like balance, rotation, bending their knees, and much more. This area is so neat, I felt like I was watching kids at a playground just having fun.

We now have top to bottom skiing and riding on all 3 mountains with 7 lifts operating and 63 trails open. 24 trails will be groomed for tomorrow, that’s 138 acres of freshly groomed terrain. The Birch Run Terrain Park is open with 13 features. Snowmaking continues around the clock on Snow Snake. Tomorrow’s forecast is partly to mostly sunny skies with temperatures between 18 and 28 degrees.
Working on balance
Today the weather was a little crazy with some rain and windy conditions, but don’t worry it’s going to change. The temperature is falling tonight and we plan to make snow on Smugglers’ Alley, Hangman’s Drop, Upper Pipeline, Bootleggers, Thomke’s Express, Practice Slope, and Lower Birch Run. Tomorrow’s forecast is calling for flurries and snow showers with 1 to 2 inches of accumulation possible. Colder temperatures and snow are in the forecast for the rest of the week. Tonight we plan to groom 20 trails for a grand total of 108 acres. Tomorrow we plan to have top to bottom skiing and riding on all 3 mountains with 5 lifts operating and 21 trails open.
I was over at Sir Henry’s Learning Hill this afternoon. I was watching some of the ski and snowboard lessons. I was impressed with Smugglers’ Notch Snow Sport University. The instructors were doing a great job of making learning fun. The features that are added to Sir Henry’s Learning Hill daily make it that much more fun. There were fun boxes, rollers, gates, jumps, hoops and more for the kids to play on. The great thing is that the kids see the props as fun, but what is really happening is they are learning new skills. They really are fantastic teaching tools.
I was playing on Morse Mountain this afternoon with my family. We were having a great time making runs from the top of the Mogul Mouse Lift. We were lucky enough to make a run with Snow Sport University Snowboard Instructor Greg Fatigate who was cross training. He was hard to recognize because he was on skis. He made some nice parallel turns and was even working on a few tricks. We saw other family friends out spending quality time together also. We ran into some family friends, sisters Gabbie and Emma who were out on the hill snowboarding. All the kids had a wonderful time riding the chair together and playing follow the leader as they came down the slopes. It’s great to watch the kids having so much fun as they share the mountain experience together.
We were getting ready to take another run on the Mogul Mouse Magic Lift when I saw Snow Sport University Ski Instructor Dara with her class. She was getting her class ready to ride the lift for their first time. What caught my eye was all the matching helmets covers. I thought they looked like light green minions from behind. The helmets covers are new this season and are different colors for different groups. This makes it easier to keep the classes organized and they also look cool.

I went skiing today with my son Hugh B and daughter Hannah. Skiing or snowboarding is a wonderful family sport. It’s something that we can do together from the time they make their first turn until and beyond the time they leave the nest. We get to spend quality time together while getting exercise and fresh air. We had the best time today finding jumps on the side of the trail. They also really enjoyed the fun boxes in the Birch Run Terrain Park. Tomorrow we plan to have 2 lifts operating and 8 trails open. 7 out of the 8 trails will be groomed for tomorrow, that’s 27 acres of freshly groomed terrain.
