The summit of Sterling
It set up last night for the first time in the past 3 nights. Our groomers were out last night working their magic on the trails. I am glad they did because this morning those were the trails of choice. The snow really softened up by the afternoon and I was skiing Hangman’s Drop and Chute. Tomorrow is going to more of the same with warmer temperatures and mostly sunny skies and a high of 48 degrees. Tomorrow we plan to have the Madonna lift and Sterling lift operating with 35 trails open for intermediates and intermediates. 14 trails will be groomed for tomorrow that is 55 acres of freshly groomed terrain. More warm weather is in the forecast for this weekend with a high of 54 degrees on Saturday and 68 degrees on Sunday.

Rockin’ Ron for Hugh. This could be one of those legendary ski days. Sunshine is in the forecast all day long, temps will range from 56 -67 degrees, and we have excellent snow coverage. Tell your boss that the Eye Doctor says he can’t see you coming in to work today.
Upper Madonna Liftline open from the top
Today was just perfect with blue bird skies and spring conditions. I took a run on Drifter this morning just to take in all the amazing views. It was groomed last night and skiing was great. The temperatures continued to rise all day long with some great spring conditions. Everything was soft and skiing great! Tomorrow is going to be a repeat of today except even warmer with mostly sunny skies and temperatures between 55 and 67. Tonight we plan to groom 14 trails that is 60 acres of freshly groomed terrain. The Madonna I lift and Sterling lift will be operating with 63 trails open for experts and intermediates.

Today’s forecast is mostly sunny skies with temperatures of 26 to 39 degrees. The snow starts tomorrow and will continue through Saturday. It is going to be another great weekend!
It is always good to ski with a friend
You know that it is going to be a great day when it snows for three days and then the sun comes out! Photographer Dennis Curran was here today to capture images for Smuggs to use in our advertisements. It definitely was the perfect day with tons of snow and a beautiful blue bird day. I had a great time jumping into piles of powder and skiing in the trees. Photo shoots always take more time than you would think, but when you see the photos later it is worth it! We are 100 percent open with top to bottom skiing and riding on all 3 mountains with all 8 lifts operating and all 78 trails open. Tonight we plan to groom 34 trails, including Lower FIS, Thomke’s Express, and Curley’s Cutback for a grand total of 126 acres of freshly groomed terrain. Tomorrow’s forecast is mostly sunny skies early becoming partly sunny in the afternoon with temperatures between 19 and 30 degrees.

Matt McCawley for Hugh. Spectacular start to the day! Sun is shining and the weather is sweet with light winds and great visibility. 95 percent of our open terrain was groomed last night, so finish your complete breakfast and get up here to enjoy the carvable corduroy. For most of the Vermont schools this is one of the last days of winter vacation, don’t waste it, go skiing or snowboarding! Remember to dress in layers too, as temps will be on the rise throughout the day.
Bluebird Day. Midway in the foreground, Practice Slope in the middle, and Mansfield in the distance.
Rockin’ Ron for Hugh. Twas a Bluebird Day! With the sunshine and warmer temps it felt like summer up here (OK, I put a little bull in the No Bull). However, it was more seasonable than yesterday. My trail pick of the day was Lower FIS, while Steve Wry of Mtn Ops picked Upper FIS. To warm-up after a few runs I stopped in the Black Bear for a hot chocolate and I ran into my friends Jack, Cary, and Rich (I think Jack’s trail pick was Long Trail). Locals and Resort Guests were enjoying Jammin’ Sam’s apres acoustic music. Sam knows I like The Beatles, so he played “Blackbird” and “Here Comes the Sun”. It was not a bad day at the office.
Julie Silverman, one of SSU’s finest.
Jammin’ Sam and special guest Amy set a relaxed mood with a performance of Fleetwood Mac’s “Landslide”.
Tatiana, Eric, Luz, Dave, Cesar, and Rebecca are ready to greet you.
Rockin’ Ron for Hugh. Good Day Sunshine! Temps should scoot above 20 degrees today. Rob Bob Stu from Patrol told me that the Groomers totally rocked it on Upper and Lower Rumrunner, so that’s this morning’s trail pick. I stopped by Mogul Mouse’s Magic Lift to see Dave and the crew. They told me to say HI to everyone on the Blog.
