A Day for Jake (AD4J) at Smuggs

Join us at Smugglers’ Notch for A Day for Jake, a heartfelt celebration of Jake Burton Carpenter’s legacy and his passion for sharing the joy of snowboarding. This special event highlights Smuggs commitment to welcoming new riders and fostering a love for the sport through Snow Sport University (SSU).

Throughout the day, families, friends, and snowboarders of all ages will come together to honor Jake’s vision through engaging on-snow experiences, progression-focused activities, and community gatherings—all designed to inspire the next generation of riders.

Event Schedule & Highlights

Learn to Ride Program

10:00 am & 1:00 pm, includes:

  • Full-Day Morse Mountain Lift Ticket: This ticket grants access to our beautiful Morse Mountain and Learning Hill, which are ideal for learning and practicing new skills.
  • 2-Hour Beginner Group Lesson: Join our friendly and experienced instructors for a 2-hour group lesson at 10:00 am (today only) & 1:00 pm. You’ll learn the basics in a safe, encouraging setting.
  • Ski or Snowboard Rental Equipment: We provide everything you need
  • $139 regular price or $99 for VT Residents

Riglet Park Family Session at the Burton Riglet Treehouse

1:30 pm – 3:00 pm
Young riders (ages 8 & under) and their families are invited to explore the fun and fundamentals of snowboarding in Riglet Park! Led by SSU instructors, this interactive session is designed to create joyful moments on snow, helping kids build confidence while embracing the spirit of play.

Run for Jake – Group Ride & Photo

3:30 pm | Meet at the top of the Village Lift
Gather with the SSU team for a group photo and tribute ride honoring Jake’s legacy. This celebratory run flows down Garden Path, regroups at Village Mid-Station, and concludes at Sir Henry’s—just in time for the evening Jib for Jake session.

Jib for Jake – Park Session at Sir Henry’s Learning Hill

4:00 pm – 5:30 pm
Under the lights at Sir Henry’s Learning Hill, riders ages 7 & older are invited to shred, learn, and progress in a family-friendly freestyle session. SSU instructors will be on hand to help riders explore new tricks in a welcoming, encouraging atmosphere.

6:00 pm
Raise a glass to Jake Burton Carpenter and his impact on the snowboarding world. This community toast brings riders, instructors, and families together for a heartfelt closing moment, reflecting on Jake’s legacy of fun, friendship, and progression.
