Smugglers' Notch Vermont - Press Releases

Summer 2016

Mountain biking at Smugglers' Notch Vermont is full-service experience for families

Families looking to enjoy the exciting sport of mountain biking will find instruction, skill parks, pump tracks and expanded mountain bike trails at Smugglers Notch Resort. Modeled on the teaching experience provided by Smugglers successful ski and ride school, the mountain biking school launched in 2015 at the resort is committed to offering full service in a great experience for all ages and abilities interested in the sport.

Smugglers has a two acre downhill mountain biking skills park that mimics features riders encounter on the trail. Smugglers mountain biking program director Jeff Spring points out that everyone can find success: "With a focus on supporting beginners, our facility is designed to get the first timer having fun and excited to keep riding." Two flow trails, a rock garden, a progressive jump line, step ups and more are part of the park, built into a hillside convenient to the village center and served by a conveyor lift. A flat ground skills track and large pump track complete Smugglers' new mountain biking facility.

Program manager Spring notes that with a smaller pump track for children ages 3-6, "our school serves all ages. Even our youngest guests, who have not yet developed biking skills, can get their first taste of the sport on pedal-free lightweight bikes that promote balance and coordination. They'll have their own circular pump track to practice riding on a trail with small features."

For instruction, Smugglers MTB School encompasses a full day camp for ages 9-17 plus clinics, area tours, private lessons and special sessions for all ages and abilities. Professionally trained mountain bike coaches and guides will help novices and more accomplished riders get the most out of their experience. The resort's mountain bike shop accommodates adults and children of all ages with over 60 bikes to choose from, and provides technician services.

The trail network at Smugglers offers beginner and novice trails and more challenging single track trails that wind through the woods and meadows. With over 100 miles of great single track within an easy drive, intermediate and expert riders can access some of the best mountain biking in Northern New England. Smugglers offers a different three hour bike tour Monday through Friday to local trail networks ranging in challenge from easy to advanced. A resort shuttle will provide transportation to the Jeffersonville trailhead of the new Lamoille Valley Rail Trail, a multi-use recreation path that parallels the Lamoille River.
