The day started off with clear skies and cool temperatures. I skied over to the upper mountains early to grab some scenic shots before the clouds rolled in. One of my favorite trails for taking in the views is Upper Drifter. Oh, by the way, we plan to groom Drifter tonight for your skiing and riding pleasure tomorrow. I went snowboarding this afternoon on Morse Mountain. I rode over to Morse Highlands to check out the snowmaking operations on Log Jam and Hibernator. There were fan guns, land guns, and tower guns all running. Our snowmakers are really taking advantage of these great temperatures. They are also making snow on Curley’s Cutback. Last night they made snow on McPherson’s, Playground, Practice Slope, and Snake Bite. All of these trails will be open tomorrow. Thank a snowmaker! Tomorrow we plan to have top to bottom skiing and riding on all 3 mountains with 6 lifts operating, including Madonna I. We have 67 trails open with terrain for all ability levels. 28 trails will be groomed for tomorrow, including Chilcoot, Black Snake, and Dixie’s Knoll for a grand total of 119 acres of freshly groomed terrain. Surface conditions are packed powder and machine groomed with average base depths of 8 to 30 inches. Currently, it is cloudy and 10 degrees at the summit of Sterling. Tomorrow’s forecast calls for cloudy skies, and snow developing late in the day with a high of 25 degrees at the base and 19 degrees at higher elevations. Tomorrow night’s forecast is calling for snow showers with 1 to 3 inches of accumulation possible.
The Nordic Center is open with 15 km of snowshoeing and 17 km of cross-country trails. The small ice rink is also available.
This weekend the featured beverage for the apres sports parties at Bootlegger’s and the Black Bear Tavern is Woodchuck.
