The weather could not make its mind up today. We received an inch of new snow overnight. The skies cleared out this morning, allowing some sunshine. The clouds rolled back in midday with some snow showers. The clouds separated late in the day, and the sun came back out. We ended up with 1 to 2 inches of new snow in the past 24 hours. Tomorrow, we plan to have top-to-bottom skiing and riding on all 3 mountains with 6 lifts operating, including the Madonna I Lift. We have 42 trails open with terrain for all ability levels. 32 trails will be groomed for tomorrow, including Upper FIS, McPherson’s, Smugglers’ Alley, Thomke’s Express, Snow Snake, and Howie’s Wanderer, for a total of 133 acres of freshly groomed terrain. Surface conditions are machine groomed and variable, with average base depths of 12 to 40 inches. Birch Run Terrain Park is open with 8 features. Currently, it is partly sunny and 28 degrees at the summit of Sterling. Tomorrow’s forecast calls for mostly sunny skies and breezy with a high of 47 degrees at the base and 42 degrees at higher elevations.

Surface conditions are machine groomed and loose granular with average base depths of 12 to 40 inches. I skied Upper Drifter and our groomers did a wonderful job! An inch of new snow on top of the corduroy was very enjoyable. I also skied Shuttle, which was groomed the night before last and it was still very smooth. Currently, it is partly cloudy and 28 degrees at the summit of Sterling with winds of 5 to 10 mph. Today’s forecast calls for a chance of flurries early, then skies becoming partly sunny, with a high of 36 degrees at the base and 29 degrees at higher elevations. Birch Run Terrain Park is open with 8 features and was groomed last night.

The Extreme Challenge is today on the Madonna Liftline from Catwalk down to the bottom of the Headwall. The best places to watch the event are from the Madonna I Lift and above mid-station.

We have 39 trails open with terrain for all ability levels. 38 trails will be groomed for tomorrow, including Drifter, Upper FIS, Playground, Smugglers’ Alley, Thomke’s, Black Snake, Snow Snake, Hibernator, and Log Jam for a total of 144 acres of freshly groomed terrain. It was a little cool today, but temperatures warm up tomorrow. Currently, it is sunny and 0 degrees at the summit of Sterling with winds of 10 to 15 mph. Tomorrow’s forecast calls for mostly sunny skies with a high of 31 degrees at the base and 26 degrees at higher elevations.

Extreme Challenge is tomorrow, Sunday, February 25th, on Upper Madonna Liftline. The best places to catch all the action are from the Madonna I Lift or off Drifter above mid-station. The competition begins at 10 am.

Morse Mountain is open to uphill travel Fridays through Wednesdays, 5 pm to 10 pm.

Sterling Mountain is open daily from 5:30 am to 7:30 am.
