Very Merry Larry & Merry Mamaroneck

Very Merry Larry    Zach

Rockin’ Ron for Hugh. I started off my ski day on Mogul Mouse’s Magic Lift, where Legendary Lift Man, Larry Burnor likes to keep it merry – that’s how he rolls. Here he’s pictured brushing the snow off the chairs. Darn, if he’s not thoughtful too.

Later on I met up with my friends Jeff, Matt, Zach, and Andrew from Mamaroneck, NY. I’ve known J, M, and Z since they first came to the Resort 10 years ago. Zach was just a toddler when I first met him, now he’s almost a teenager and totally into snowboarding. Yesterday, he took lessons from SSU’s George Zavis and he graduated from Sir Henry’s to Lower Morse Liftline. He was linkin’ turns and lovin’ life (see photo above). As Jeff and I were getting on the Village Lift, I spotted another long time Smuggs Guest, Rob and his daughter Emily. It turns out that Rob and Jeff met each other at the Resort – Rob was born in Mamaroneck. It’s a Smuggs World after all.

Have a MERRY!

Shake it up and FIZZ!

Feb 4, 2014 Fletch n HokieRockin’ Ron for Hugh. Shake it up and FIZZ is not a recipe for a cocktail but how Fletch states his trail pick. That’s ironic because Fletch is the bartender in the Black Bear Tavern at the Base Lodge. The trail he’s referring to is Upper F.I.S. aka Fizz, which is intoxicating in its own way. After cruising down the upper part of Upper F.I.S., I tend to turn onto lower Doc Dempsey’s aka Doc’s, but Fletch said let’s stay on Fizz. So I cancelled my Doctor’s appointment, and we shook it up and fizzed some more. By the time we reached Link, I felt like a drunken sailor but without the rum. Pictured on top of the snow-covered Madonna Mountain prior to fizzing, are the aforementioned Fletch, and Hokie one of our Shuttle Drivers.

Elsewhere around the Resort, I saw the Hogans and the Coadys – families from Canada who vacation here together. In an interesting twist, the kids are skiers and the dads are snowboarders. Skyler, one of the young boys, had a chance to become a boarder but decided against it because he would have to wait until he was good enough to go on some of his favorite trails like Smugglers’ Alley. In fact, Skyler told me his goal this week was to ski Upper F.I.S. for the first time. To quote Fletch “Shake it up and FIZZ!”

Snowboard lesson on Sterling

dec. 26, 2013 ssu rob pirogSnow Sport University Instructor, Rob Pirog and his class enjoying the fresh snow. We received 2 to 3 inches of new snow overnight and another 5 inches during the day. Mother Nature just kept hitting the refresh button. The light fluffy snow on top of freshly groomed terrain was just wonderful. My son Hugh B has a pair of twin tip skis and the new snow just shoots off of them like a rooster tail. The light snow hangs in the air like a smoke screen.

Dec. 9, 2013 geoffMy cousin Mandy and her boyfriend Jack were here visiting from South Carolina for a long weekend. Mandy has never snowboarded and she took a private lesson with snowboard instructor Rob Pirog on Friday morning. Mandy said her lesson was fantastic and she really learned a great deal. Mandy practiced what Rob had taught her over the weekend and she improved so much!  Rob saw Mandy snowboarding today on Morse and gave her a shout out “Way to go Mandy!”
We went to the Green Mountain Deli for lunch the first day Mandy and Jack were here at Smuggs. They loved the food and said that they were coming back tomorrow! Well they kept saying that and had lunch there all 4 days. It was not just the food they liked; they really enjoyed the friendly service!
