Mountains of adventure and mountains of fun

Last night we made snow on Meadowlark, the Practice Slope, Lower Morse Liftline, Sir Henry’s Learning, and the base area of the Village Lift. We continued making snow on Sir Henry’s Learning Hill this morning to take advantage of the colder temperatures. Our groomers smoothed out the snowmaking whales and Sir Henry’s was open this afternoon. The weather is going to be a little wild tonight and tomorrow. Tonight’s forecast is calling for snow, freezing rain, and sleet before midnight then turning to rain after 1 am. Tomorrow’s forecast is calling for cloudy skies with rain before noon and a high of 57 degrees. Temperatures fall tomorrow night and stay colder for the near future with snow in the forecast for Saturday. Tomorrow we plan to have 3 lifts operating; Sterling Lift, Sir Henry’s Glider, and Mogul Mouse’s Magic Lift open to mid-station. We have 10 trails open with terrain for all ability levels. 9 out of the 10 trails will be groomed for tomorrow, that’s a grand total of 28 acres of freshly groomed terrain. Surface conditions are machine groomed and loose granular with average base depths of 6 to 32 inches.

Snow Sport University Fun

Jonah having fun in the glades on Morse

I have been working as a helper for Snow Sport University this week.  Our group is between 4 and 6 years old. We started on Sir Henry’s Learning Hill on Monday morning.  We made sure we could all turn and stop before venturing onto the Mogul Mouse’s Magic Lift. We then started with mid station runs on Mogul Mouse’s Magic Lift. Yesterday we had a blast on the Magic Learning Trail, Wanderer, Lower Morse Liftline, and King Billy’s Bob Den. Today we did a warm up run to mid station before we headed to the top of the Mogul Mouse’s Magic Lift.  We then skied around the world, which is Midway to Curley’s Cutback and then to Meadowlark. We also had a great time in Yellow Cat’s Lair and skiing the glades off the Magic Learning Trail. Tomorrow’s fun includes more runs before the World Famous Cookie Race on Sir Henry’s Learning Hill.

Tom at the top of the Mogul Mouse’s Magic Lift

I would like you to meet Tom. Tom is from New Jersey and is here at Smuggs vacationing with his family. I was lucky enough to ride Mogul Mouse’s Magic Lift with Tom this morning. As soon as we got on the lift we hear “Hey Dad.” It was Tom’s daughter, who was taking a lesson on Sir Henry’s Learning Hill. Tom told me about the progress his daughter has made with her turns and that she is now skiing without a tie on her tips.  Tom also told me that he is a member of the Central Jersey Ski Club. Tom has been to many resorts with the Club and one of the things that he likes most about Smuggs is the amazing terrain! Thank you for the entertaining lift ride Tom and enjoy your stay here at Smuggs!
