Don’t Like the Weather, Wait a Minute.

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERA

Today was another great day at Smugglers’ Notch. If you are familiar with Northern Vermont then you will know that old saying, if you don’t like the weather, wait a minute. Well that’s what today was like, the day starting off with temperatures hovering just above zero. Then the sun came out and quickly warmed the temperatures above 20 degrees.  Finally the clouds quickly rolled in and we had an afternoon burst of snow with about an inch of accumulation. Despite the weather being inconsistent, the snow was consistently great today, and myself and Jeff Silver of Mtn. Seasons Bagels found lots of great snow still untracked in the woods. We also came across lots of trees that look like the ones pictured, which is a testament to all the snow we have received this season. We have gotten 70 inches of snow in February alone and 212″ all season. Another thing to get excited about is that during this whole week, Smugglers’ is offering 1/2 price lift tickets, rentals, and lessons to all Vermont residents (valid I.D. required) so take advantage of being a Vermonter, and enjoy these fantastic conditions. Tomorrow look for cooler temperatures, under mostly cloudy skies, with skiing and riding on 100% of our terrain, on all three mountains!

Northern Vermont USASA Slopestyle Event

skier grab goodblogThis morning I went on the Cat Trax Fresh Trax Tour up Madonna Mountain. It was a beautiful sunny day. We had great views from the cabin of the cat on the ride up the mountain but the 360 degree view from the summit of Madonna was the best. We had a great time cruising down the corduroy of Chilcoot. I went to the Zone Terrain Park to check out the Slopestyle event. There was a great turn out of competitors and the park was in great shape. It was amazing to watch these skiers and riders throwing down their best tricks for the judges. It was also pretty cool to have Vermont’s own Ty Walker show up and help announce the event with Connor Manning.

It was clear overnight and the temperature dropped down a little bit. The sun came out this morning and warmed us up. I had a good time today looking for powder stashes and good sunlight for photos. Pictured here is Brooks having fun in the glades on Madonna Mountain. Tuesday February 18 is Vermont Specialty Food Day in the Village Courtyard from 10:30 am till 2:30 pm.
