Snowmen in July!

No, not that kind of snowman…

It’s July 1st, and I headed out for a morning hike up Sterling. The temps were nice and cool, so I just had to take advantage. The last thing I expected to see was snow up in the Zone. But…I figured I’d better make hay while the sun shined. And that’s exactly what I did!

The snow is what’s left from this year’s Pond Skimming. There are still a few small areas on Mount Mansfield with some natural snow from this year’s historic season, but it’s not easy to find. This patch is just a short hike from the base of the mountain! The temperature around the snow pile was nice and cool, and the plants and wildflowers growing around it are the types you see growing in May and June. It’s literally like stepping 6 weeks back in time!

Things Really Heat Up Now

July typically kicks off some of our most popular times to travel. With our famous July 4th Celebration just a few days away, the smell of cotton candy will fill the air, mixed with gunpowder from the Howitzer kickoff to the 40th Army Band performance right here on the Village Green. The fireworks set to the backdrop of the Sterling Range are the perfect compliment to all the action! Join us this Thursday for a full-day, unforgettable family experience!
