Keeps getting better

We have received snow every day for the past 6 days. Snow has fallen 8 out of the past 11 days with a total of 47 inches! The calendar says that it’s spring, but we have mid-winter conditions here at Smuggs. The “No friends on a powder day” is not true. I met up with some long-time friends today, and we had an absolute blast. We took turns getting fresh lines in the woods. There was a great deal of hooting, hollering, and, of course, laughing! There is more snow in the forecast for the next 24 hours, and I can’t wait to do it all over again. Tomorrow, we plan to have top-to-bottom skiing and riding on all 3 mountains with 6 lifts operating. We’re expecting some wind tomorrow, so please check the report in the morning for the latest updates. We have 75 trails open with terrain for all ability levels. 33 trails will be groomed for tomorrow, including Dixie’s Knoll, Snake Bite, and Drifter, for a total of 134 acres of freshly groomed terrain. Surface conditions are packed powder and powder with average base depths of 12 to 38 inches. Currently, it is snowing and 28 degrees at the summit of Sterling. We could see 2 to 4 inches of new snow tonight. Tomorrow’s forecast is calling for snow showers with 1 to 2 inches of accumulation possible with a high of 20 degrees at the base and 13 degrees at higher elevations. Bundle up and enjoy all the new snow!

25 inches of snow in the past 6 days

We received 2 inches of new snow overnight. It was snowing so hard earlier today that it was hard to see, and we picked up another 3 inches. There is even more snow in the forecast for tonight and tomorrow. Today, we have top-to-bottom skiing and riding on all 3 mountains with 6 lifts operating, including the Madonna I Lift. We have 75 trails open with terrain for all ability levels. 34 trails have been groomed for today, that’s 140 acres of freshly groomed terrain. Surface conditions are packed powder and powder with average base depths of 12 to 38 inches. Currently, it is cloudy and 28 degrees at the summit of Sterling with winds of 5 to 10 mph. Enjoy all the new snow!

More Snow. More Trails.

Rockin’ Ron for Hugh. 100% of the trails on Madonna and Sterling Mountains were open today, and all but three on Morse, making a grand total of 75 of 78 trails!! 6″ of new snow overnight and 20″ in the past 5 days will do that. Tomorrow, we expect a similar trail count. I enjoyed runs on Upper Chilcoot, Goat Path, and Lower FIS with the Allman Brothers’ Blue Sky in the earbuds.

NOTE: Uphill access on Morse will be closed on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday nights due to snowmaking.

All of these trails were open today!

6 inches of new SNOW overnight!

Rockin’ Ron for Hugh. That’s right, it’s March 19th, and we have more snow! We plan to have top-to-bottom skiing and riding on all 3 mountains with 6 lifts operating, including Madonna I. Last night’s projection for open trails was 55, but that count should go up with the fresh snow. 35 trails groomed, totaling 139 acres. Ski U soon.

Welcome to more Winter!

Snow showers with breaks of sun

It was a wild weather day. It was supposed to be cloudy with snow showers all day, but the sun decided to make a few cameos. The on-and-off snow showers did add up with 2 to 4 inches of accumulation in the past 24 hours. There is more snow in the forecast for tonight, with another 4 to 8 inches possible. Tomorrow’s forecast is calling for snow showers early, then partly sunny skies later, with a high of 30 degrees at the base and 23 degrees at higher elevations. Tomorrow, we plan to have top-to-bottom skiing and riding on all 3 mountains with 6 lifts operating, including the Madonna I Lift. We have 54 trails open with terrain for all ability levels. 35 trails will be groomed for tonight, including Snake Bite, Dixie’s Knoll, and skier’s right on Upper FIS, for a total of 132 acres of freshly groomed terrain. Surface conditions are machine groomed and variable, with average base depths of 10 to 36 inches. The overnight snowfall should give us some powder conditions tomorrow! Currently, it is 24 degrees at the summit of Sterling with light snow. We have some colder temperatures coming at us this week, and we plan to fire up our snowmaking guns on Morse Mountain. We plan to make snow on Tuesday night and Wednesday night.

Winter returns

The warmer temperatures are gone for now. This week’s forecast is snow showers and colder temperatures. We have received new snow for the past 4 days at higher elevations. The colder temperatures will bring snowfall to the lower elevations also. We could see 1 to 3 inches of new snow at the base today and another 3 to 5 inches of snow tonight. There is also snow in the forecast for Wednesday.

Dual Slalom

Today was the second day of the George Tormey Challenge. Racing through a course by yourself is one thing, but when someone is next to you racing, it takes things to another level. It pushes you because you can see if you are winning or losing. I had a great time watching this head-to-head competition.

Tomorrow, we plan to have top-to-bottom skiing and riding on all 3 mountains with 6 lifts operating, including the Madonna I Lift. We have 69 trails open with terrain for all ability levels. 33 trails will be groomed for tomorrow, including Hibernator, Smugglers’ Alley, and skier’s right on Upper FIS for a total of 127 acres of freshly groomed terrain. Surface conditions are machine-groomed and variable, with average base depths of 10 to 36 inches. We received 2 to 4 inches of new snow on top in the past 24 hours. Currently, it is partly sunny and 30 degrees at the summit of Sterling with winds of 0 to 5 mph. Tomorrow’s forecast is calling for snow showers 1 to 3 inches of accumulation possible with a high of 33 degrees at the base and 23 degrees at higher elevations. We have colder temperatures forecasted for the upcoming week.
