Happy New Year

I went skiing this morning and snowboarding this afternoon. The snow was nice and soft due to today’s mild temperatures. I would have to say that Snow Snake was my trail pick of the day. It is such a fun intermediate trail with different pitches, contours, and many turns. It’s a great testing ground to see if you are ready for the upper mountains. This afternoon while I was out snowboarding I saw the Friendly Pirate and Billy Bob Bear on Morse Mountain. I happened to be a few chairs behind them on the Mogul Mouse’s Magic Lift. It was wonderful to watch as people noticed them on the chairlift. They were getting many shout-outs and waves!

Tomorrow we plan to have 5 lifts operating; Madonna II Lift, Sterling Lift, Village Lift, Sir Henry’s Glider, and Mogul Mouse’s Magic Lift. We have 21 trails open with terrain for all ability levels. 18 out of the 21 trails will be groomed for tomorrow, including Garden Path, Mulcahy’s Link, and Smugglers’ Alley for a grand total of 74 acres of freshly groomed terrain. Surface conditions are machine groomed and variable with average base depths of 6 to 32 inches. Currently, it is cloudy and 38 degrees at the summit of Sterling. Tonight’s forecast is calling for mixed precipitation before 2 am then sleet and snow with an inch of accumulation possible. Temperatures will be falling through tonight and tomorrow. Tomorrow’s forecast is calling for periods of snow with 2 to 4 inches of accumulation possible and a high of 20 degrees early in the day. We plan to resume snowmaking operations tomorrow on Black Snake, Snake Bite, and the Practice Slope.
