Making new friends

I was skiing down Garden Path today when I met Erin. Erin was working her way down the steep section of Garden Path. I stopped and gave her a few pointers on how to ski across the hill to reduce the pitch. Erin’s husband and friends were just down the trail a little ways. We all met up and then skied Garden Path and Sam’s Run together. I told them about Morse Highlands and they decided to go check it out. It was wonderful to meet all of you, and I hope you enjoy the rest of your vacation. Safe travels on your way back to Ottawa.

A little new snow for the weekend

We received an inch of new snow today and 7 inches in the past week. The day started with some freezing rain, which turned into snow. The temperature only dropped a few degrees during the day, but it was enough for precipitation to become snow. I went skiing this morning on Morse and Madonna. I enjoy skiing from the Village to the upper mountains and back. Ruthie’s is a nice cruiser with cool views. This afternoon, I went snowboarding on Morse, and the conditions were pretty soft. We plan to open more terrain and lifts this weekend. Tomorrow, we plan to have top-to-bottom skiing and riding on all 3 mountains with 7 lifts operating, including the Madonna I Lift. We have 37 trails open with terrain for all ability levels. 30 trails will be groomed for tomorrow, including Dixie’s Knoll, Chilcoot, and Smugglers’ Alley, for a total of 120 acres. That’s the most terrain we have groomed in a night all season. Surface conditions are machine groomed and variable, with average base depths of 12 to 36 inches. Currently, it is cloudy and 28 degrees at the summit of Sterling. Tomorrow’s forecast calls for mostly cloudy skies with a chance of a snow shower, a high of 33 degrees at the base, and 30 degrees at higher elevations. If you were on the hill today, make sure to dry out all your gear for tomorrow! I’m looking forward to cruising on some corduroy in the morning.

Beware of smugglers

I had a blast today, skiing as a pirate. We were doing a little filming for the Friendly Pirate’s new song “Sea Shanty.” The song is about skiing at Smuggs. Someone in the Sterling corral even mistook me for the Friendly Pirate. Rockin’ Ron is a snow reporter on Tuesdays to cover my day off. It was fun to switch and have the snow reporter become a pirate! Tomorrow, we plan to have top-to-bottom skiing and riding on all 3 mountains with 5 lifts operating, including the Madonna I Lift.
