Overview
ArborTrek Smugglers' Notch offers eco-adventures ranging from SERENE to EXTREME. Our zip line canopy tour is fully-guided and combines the thrill of high-speed zip lines with stunning views of the region and commentary on the local ecology, natural history, and lore of Smugglers' Notch. Our new tree climbing adventure and treetop obstacle course are designed for those who want to get physical and includes more than 70 obstacles like wobbly bridges, rope swings, cargo nets, zip lines, suspension bridges, and balance beams.

Awesome All Day Adventures


Designed for the hearty-adventurer, the Awesome All-Day Adventure Package includes the award-winning Zip Line Canopy Tour and 3.5-hours on the Treetop Obstacle Course and Climbing Adventure. To complete it all requires covering more than two miles or aerial traverses and foot trails:
  • 2.0 miles of zip lines;
  • 0.65 miles traversing bridges and challenge elements;
  • 0.1 miles climbing ladders, rock walls, trees, and vertical challenge obstacles;
  • 0.15 miles rappelling, jumping, and lowering from trees; and
  • 0.25 miles hiking nature trails. Survive the day and receive a complimentary ArborTrek t-shirt.

    Zip Line Canopy Tour

    Zip Line Canopy Tour

    Designed to educate, entertain, and inspire, ArborTrek's Zip Line Canopy Tour is guaranteed to provide nature lovers and thrill seekers with an experience they will not soon forget. Following a mountain brook high above Smugglers Notch Resort Village, the tour descends through mature stands of hemlock, white birch, and sugar maple. Participants soar down more than 4,500 feet of zip lines, cross bridges high above the forest floor, rappel from trees, and enjoy stunning views of the area.

    REQUIREMENTS & RESTRICTIONS: The Zip Line Canopy Tour is fully guided and designed for participants of moderate-to-good health from ages 8 to adult, weighing 70-250 lbs. (max weight: 220 lbs. if less than 5'4", 180 lbs. if less than 5'0"). Minors less than 16 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. View complete list.

    Treetop Obstacle Course

    Treetop Obstacle Course

    Slide, balance, jump, crawl, climb, dash, and swing through the trees. The Treetop Obstacle Course is designed with adventure trekkers in mind. This self-guided adventure combines the thrill of being high above the ground with physical challenges that test a participant’s strength, balance, and agility. The Treetop Obstacle Course consists of 80+ elements. Following completion of a ground school, trekkers are provided the opportunity to explore a variety of different course areas rated from easy to extreme.

    REQUIREMENTS & RESTRICTIONS: The treetop obstacle course is designed for participants of good-to-excellent health and fitness. Ages 4 years to adult. This is a self-guided adventure. Max weight: 275 lbs. View complete list.

    OPTIONS: The treetop obstacle course is comprised of three course areas:
    ArborTrek Junior
    (*) 1. Apple Creek – 22 traverses including 6 zip lines
    (*) 2. Back 40 – 50 traverses including 4 zip lines
    (*) 3. Climbing Adventure – 14 climbs

    Full admission provides access to all three (3) course areas.

    ArborTrek Junior ticket provides access to Apple Creek and the Climbing Adventure only. To gain access to all of the areas, participants must be at least 8 years old and stand 54 inches in height. Those participants who do not stand 54 inches in height will be limited to the ArborTrek Junior course.

    SUPERVISION OF MINORS: Participants under the age of 13 must be accompanied by an adult on the course. One adult may accompany two (2) children who are 12 years and under and both stand 54 inches in height, or one (1) child who is less than 54 inches in height or requires additional assistance.

    DURATION: 2.5-hour pass (time includes gear-up, orientation, and ground school)

    Climbing Adventure

    Tree Climbing

    If you've ever dreamed of climbing high into a tree or climbing walls, here's your chance. Our climbing program blends new belay technology with innovative climbing holds that make tree climbing easy and tree-friendly. Climbers choose from a variety of routes including our synthetic climbing wall (when available), 3 tree climbs, and 8 vertical obstacles. Designed for participants in good-to-excellent health from ages 4 to adult, weighing 40-275 lbs.

    REQUIREMENTS & RESTRICTIONS: The Climbing Adventure is designed for participants of good-to-excellent health and fitness. Ages 4 years to adult. Max weight: 275 lbs. Parents of minors must be present, but do not need to participate. View complete list.

    Adventure-Based Team Building

    Vermont Team Building Events

    This isn't your run-of-the-mill team building program. To be highly effective, teams need to practice... and that's just what our adventure team building sessions are designed to do--provide opportunities for team to practice. Complete a series of ground-based obstacles that present physical, mental, and emotional challenges that invite groups to explore teamwork strategies and demonstrate for themselves the importance of planning, cooperation, and communications. Programs can be tailored to skill development, assessment, or just pure recreation. Opportunities are available for school, youth, and community groups, as well as, adult professional and corporate groups.

    From Smugglers’ Notch Village: Turn right on Route 108S and drive for 0.6 miles. Turn right on Edwards Road. Drive 0.3 miles and turn right into ArborTrek.

    From Burlington: Follow Route 15 East to Jeffersonville. Turn right on Route 108S at Jeffersonville. Follow for 4.5 miles to Edwards Road on the left. Note: Edwards Road intersects with Route 108S twice. Turn left at the second entrance to Edwards Road. Drive 0.3 miles and turn right into ArborTrek.

    From I-89/Stowe/Waterbury(Summer Only): Take Exit 10 (I-89) in Waterbury, VT. Follow Route 100N to Stowe. In Stowe, turn left on Route 108N/Mountain Rd. through Smugglers’ Notch pass to Edwards Road on the right, about 4.5 miles from the top of the pass. Drive 0.3 miles on Edwards Road and turn right into ArborTrek.

    From I-89/Stowe/Waterbury (Winter): Take Exit 10 (I-89) in Waterbury, VT. Follow Route 100N through Stowe to Morrisville. In Morrisville, pick up Route 15W through Johnson to Jeffersonville. In Jeffersonville, turn left on Route 108 South. Follow for 4.5 miles to Edwards Road on the left. Note: Edwards Road intersects with Route 108S twice.
