Artists in the Mountains

Take some time off the slopes to dabble in the arts. Specially designed, hands-on workshops help you create your own arts and crafts project to enjoy for years to come. Local artists provide instruction and all the materials needed to complete your project.

December 11, 2020 - April 4, 2021

Come join us for a two-hour fun filled activity for all ages. Together we will make a snowman come alive on a clear glass mug. No snow, no carrots and no coal. Instead we will use acrylic enamel paints, brushes and a technique referred to as layering. After 24-hours you need to bake it in the oven to set. Then it will be ready to go. Let it snow!

(BYOB) Paint and Sip
Monday, 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
$45 per person, per session.
Learn how strokes are made on canvas and how your brushes do the work with acrylic paint. All while you sip your favorite drink. All levels. Materials included. 21 & older only. Alcoholic beverages are not provided.


Learn to make a Snowman pin made with battery operated tea lights. Decorate with fleece, fabric, and paint. The nose lights up! A fun filled project to pin on you scarf, hat or more! Ages 10 & older. All materials included. Under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

This class will teach you how to make a cake in a mug using a microwave and cake mix...along with fondant roses and more to top it! Take your sMUGgs Cake mug home to enjoy easy cake making! All ages. Under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

Stencil a memory. You'll stencil a design on a glass ornament using glass etching cream. Ages 10 & older. All materials included.

Acrylic painting for anyone who has considered painting but didn't think they could, or for artists who wish to increase their creativity. Primary colors are explored, along with composition and play. Each person will be pleased to bring home a painting at the end of this session.

Making Medicinal Tonics for Winter Health & Vitality
Thursday, 10:30 am - 12:30 pm,
$45 per person, per session.

Herbal Tonics are gentle, nourishing & safely promote one’s health and healthy aging through regular consumption. Join Kelley Robie, of Horsetail Herbs, as we make four medicinal winter tonics. We will be making a Winter Vitality Tonic Syrup & Gummies, a Warming Spice Tonic Tea, an Immune Tune Tonic Cider & a Respiratory Tonic Steam. The basics of herbal medicine will be discussed as we make our blends. You will learn what herbs are best used for tonics and how to apply them. Take charge of your health this winter! Explore your creative side as you develop natural forms into clay images in the three-dimensional art form. Nancy Schade leads you in clay modeling, learning the properties of various clays, and forming clay into a piece that can be finished. Take home a complete sculpture.

Basic Natural Candle Making
Thursday, 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Everyone loves the warm glow of candlelight especially during the long, dark winter nights! Join Kelley Robie, of Horsetail Herbs, and learn how to create your own natural container candles scented with essential oils. We will explore safe natural waxes that may be used for candle making and how to incorporate essential oils into the process. You will leave the workshop with your own handmade container candle and a votive candle. You’ll learn safety considerations, review necessary equipment, learn about different types of wicks, and how to color and scent your candles. All materials included in the cost of the workshop! Herbal Hot Toddies, Mulled Drinks & Heated Spirits
Thursday, 3:30 pm - 5:30 pm
$45 per person, per session.

Whether it's craving a warming hot toddy or dreaming of sweet and spicy apple cider, ‘tis the season for the toasty, comforting scents and flavors brought to us by fragrant mulling spices and herbs! Many traditions hold that a little nip helps fight off whatever ails you. This class will cover tasty ways to enhance that prescription. We will make hot toddies and mull herbs in wine and cider, adding medicinal herbs to tea and spirits for classic winter wellness drinks. We’ll raise a mug to that! Meets at the Nordland Library.

Using our creative side we learn how to turn ephemera, photos & even ski maps into beautiful conversation pieces under glass. We will use tools & leather to finish off our pieces. This is an excellent way to show off your personality, make memories or that BFF necklace set. The possibilities are endless. Guests are welcome to bring in photos & ephemera, but the instructor will have some fabulous photos & paper to choose from. $45 per person, per session. Ages 12 and up. All materials included. Advanced registration is required as space is limited. Meets at the Artists in the Mountains.

Creating your own unique stamp on things can bring out the metalsmith in you. Learning to plan, play and create unique pieces from scratch. We will cover how to stamp words, create patterns and design amazing treasures. This skill is so much fun, you can really let loose in this class, leaving with a truly one of a kind piece. $45 per person, per session. Ages 12 and up. All materials included. Advanced registration is required as space is limited. Meets at the Artists in the Mountains.
