Black and Blues

Rockin’ Ron for Hugh. I remember my first day skiing on the Black Snake trail. I marveled at its roller coaster hills and unexpected turns. Most of all I remember Harley, Jodi, and Sarah speeding down it on their snowboards and whooping with pure joy. But I always wondered why Black Snake was designated a blue intermediate. I asked around but nobody seemed to know. What I did find out is that Black Snake was the name of a smuggling ship on Lake Champlain in the early 1800s (when the Notch became known as Smugglers’ Notch). This of course fits with Smugglers/Bootleggers/Rumrunners theme. I was inspired to write a song about this notorious vessel and it is on my third Friendly Pirate album The Flying Pirate Circus. If you like history, take a listen to Black Snake Tale.

Me on skis

Sarah Thomas of Marketing/Sales caught me traversing between the Madonna and Sterling Lifts. She called me a Bluebird.

Boom

The weather was fantastic today with the sun dancing in and out the clouds. The comfortable temperatures were also welcoming. The new snow that we received yesterday was a bunch of fun to plan in today. I would have to say that my favorite run of the day was Upper FIS.  The new snow blanketed the whole trail, especially up high. The beautiful weather continues tomorrow with mostly sunny skies and temperatures between 24 and 39 degrees. The forecast is calling for the temperatures to drop tonight and our snowmakers are going to take full advantage! The Madonna I lift will have a delayed opening tomorrow morning due to the snowmaking.

ON3P Demo Day — Since the beginning, we’ve believed we could build skis better, build them ourselves, and build them here in America. We’re skiers who founded a manufacturing company, not one who entered the game as an overfunded marketing business, focused on creating hype, then outsourcing our production. There’s no pride in skis we didn’t press, nor a personal stake in skis being sent off to be built by someone else. Above all else, we cherish the knowledge that we’ve created every aspect of the skis we take to the mountains and ski on our days off. There’s pride in what we do and without our craft, we’re just like the rest. But with it, we’re ON3P Skis
