What a day!

Trail pick of the day
Getting my groove back

It was 39 degrees and sunny on top of Sterling first thing this morning. I knew that it would not take long before we had some spring conditions. I started my day off snowboarding on Morse Mountain. I broke out my old carving board and had a blast on Garden Path. The soft snow makes it easy to carve. I then switched to skis and headed for the upper mountains. The snow was getting soft on the upper mountains also. Ski Patrol dropped ropes on Hangmans’ Drop, Thomke’s Express, Shire, Bermuda, Father Bob’s, Gary B’s, and Upper Pipeline. The Madonna I lift was on wind hold most of the day, but it opened this afternoon. I could not wait to ski Upper FIS. It was groomed last night and then set in the sun until the Madonna I Lift opened. It was smooth, covered with soft snow, and just plain wonderful. I hurried to the bottom, got back on the Madonna I Lift and skied it again!

Tomorrow we plan to have top to bottom skiing and riding on all 3 mountains with 6 lifts operating, including the Madonna I lift. We have 70 trails open with terrain for all ability levels. Surface conditions are spring and machine groomed with average base depths of 16 to 56 inches. 25 trails will be groomed for tomorrow for a grand total of 115 acres of freshly groomed terrain. Currently, it is sunny and 47 degrees at the summit of Sterling. Tomorrow’s forecast is calling for cloudy skies with a chance of rain and a high of 54 degrees.

It was another gorgeous day on the slopes! We received an inch of new snow last night and 224 inches this season so far. Our groomers were very busy last night smoothing out 146 acres. I skied Upper FIS first thing this morning and it was wonderful. It was groomed early last night, so the new snow was on top of the groomed snow. The wind had moved the snow around just a bit. It was nice to play in the small drifts. Our groomers are going to be even busier tonight with 41 trails on the list, including Upper FIS, Bootlegger, Snake Bite, Timberrrr, Ruthie’s, and Smugglers’ Alley. Tomorrow we plan to have top to bottom skiing and riding on all 3 mountains with all 8 lifts operating. We have 68 trails open with terrain for all ability levels. Surface conditions are machine groomed and variable with average base depths of 16 to 56 inches. Log Jam Terrain Park, Birch Run Terrain Park, and Riglet Park are all open.
