Today’s forecast calls for another 5 to 9 inches of accumulation, windy, with a high of 28 degrees at the base and 22 degrees at higher elevations. The Madonna I Lift, Madonna II Lift, and Sterling Lift are presently on wind hold. We have 61 skiable trails and 13 lift-accessible trails open today. Currently, it is snowing hard and 14 degrees at the summit of Sterling with winds of 25 to 35 mph.
We have 43 skiable trails and 38 lift-accessible trails open for Thursday. We plan to have 6 lifts operating tomorrow, including the Madonna II Lift. The Madonna I Lift will be closed tomorrow. 22 trails will be groomed for tomorrow, including Lower FIS, Log Jam, and Rumrunner, for a total of 94 acres of freshly groomed terrain. Surface conditions are machine groomed and spring conditions with average base depths of 8 to 32 inches. Currently, it is 39 degrees at the summit of Sterling with light rain. Tomorrow’s forecast calls for cloudy skies, a chance of sleet early on top with a high of 43 degrees at the base and 35 degrees at higher elevations. The temperatures will be colder as we get closer to the weekend, with snow forecasted Saturday night, Sunday, and Monday. I’m already doing my snow dance!

The Nordic Center is open with 15 km of snowshoeing and 17 km of cross-country trails. The ice rink is presently closed.

This morning at 5 am I called our snowmaking crew to get a weather update and to find out where we are making snow for the snow report. I spoke with long-time snowmaker Dave Gagnon and he told me they had a great night! He said the single-digit temperatures and no wind allowed them to “Kill it on Lower Chilcoot.” Our grooming staff will now take over and push out all the snowmaking whales. We plan to have the Madonna II Lift operating tomorrow with Link to Lower Chilcoot open. The Madonna II Lift will remain open the rest of this week and weekend. Today we have the Sterling Lift, Village Lift, Mogul Mouse’s Magic Lift, Morse Highlands Lift, and Sir Henry’s Glider all operating. We have 18 trails open with terrain for all ability levels. 16 out of the 18 trails have been groomed for today, including Dixie’s Knoll for a grand total of 72 acres of freshly groomed terrain. Surface conditions are machine-groomed and variable with average base depths of 6 to 24 inches. Currently, it is sunny and 16 degrees at the summit of Sterling with winds of 0 to 5 mph. Today’s forecast is calling for sunny skies early with increasing clouds later in the day, a high of 24 degrees at the base and 18 degrees at the summit of Sterling.

It went from spring back to winter today. The thermometer hit 50 degrees at the base earlier today. The temperature fell throughout the day. The temperature at the base is now 21 degrees. We had partly sunny skies most of the day. It clouded up quickly after 3 pm and that’s when it started to snow. We could see an inch of accumulation by tomorrow morning. Tomorrow’s forecast is calling for mostly sunny skies with a high of 15 degrees at the base and 9 degrees at higher elevations. Friday’s forecast is periods of snow with up to 11 inches of accumulation possible. If you were out on the slopes today make sure to get all your gear dry for tomorrow. Damp gloves or boots will not be much fun tomorrow. Our grooming staff will be busy tonight getting the slopes looking their best for tomorrow. They will concentrate their efforts on Sterling, Morse, and trails accessed from the Madonna II Lift. The Madonna I Lift will be closed tomorrow and we plan to reopen it on Friday. We need extra time to groom Upper FIS and Upper Chilcoot. Tomorrow we plan to have 6 lifts operating; Village, Sterling, Mogul Mouse’s Magic, Morse Highlands, Sir Henry’s Glider, and Madonna II. The Village Lift and Mogul Mouse’s Magic Lift will open at 8:30 am tomorrow and Friday morning. We have 29 trails open with terrain for all ability levels. More trails will be open this weekend. All 29 trails will be groomed for tomorrow for a grand total of 120 acres of freshly groomed terrain. Temperatures will be falling throughout the day. We plan to open the Sterling Lift around 10 am today. We plan to open the Madonna II Lift around noon today. The Madonna I Lift is presently on wind hold. Surface conditions are variable and frozen granular with average base depths of 14 to 46 inches.
Tomorrow we plan to have 7 lifts operating, including the Morse Highlands Lift, Madonna I Lift, and Madonna II Lift. We have 77 out of 78 trails open with terrain for all ability levels. 32 trails will be groomed for tomorrow, including Ruthie’s, Thomke’s, and Hibernator for a grand total of 129 acres of freshly groomed terrain. Upper FIS will be groomed from the Doc’s cutoff down to Time Square. Surface conditions are packed powder and variable with average base depths of 16 to 48 inches. We received 2 inches of new snow today and 21 inches in the past week. Currently, it is cloudy and 27 degrees at the summit of Sterling with winds of 5 to 10 mph. Tomorrow’s forecast is calling for partly sunny skies with increasing clouds, a high of 38 degrees at the base and 31 degrees at higher elevations. Birch Run and Knight’s Revenge Terrain Parks are both open.
