A day for the books

Madonna I was open and the ropes were dropping! Upper Madonna Liftline was open from the top down to Robin’s Run work road. Freefall was open from the top. Robin’s Run, Black Hole, Doc Dempsey’s, and Upper FIS were all open. I was lucky enough today to be giving a tour to Stuart Winchester from Storm Skiing Journal and Podcast. We had a blast skiing as many different runs and glades as we could today. We started with a warm-up corduroy cruiser on Upper Chilcoot, Link, and Lower Madonna Liftline. Upper Drifter, Catwalk Extension, and Attitude were next. We then skied all the double blacks and the Black Hole. We also checked off Doc’s, Upper FIS, Strawberry Fields, the Highway, Moonshiner’s Glades, Moustache, Lower Chilcoot, Lower FIS, Lower Rumrunner, Dan’s Ford, Bermuda, Ruthie’s, Midway, and Meadowlark. I would have to say the best turns of the day were in Bud’s Way off of Doc Dempsey’s. We found some untouched lines on skier’s right that were heavenly!

Tomorrow we plan to have top to bottom skiing and riding on all 3 mountains with all 8 lifts operating. We now have 72 trails open with terrain for all ability levels. 27 trails will be groomed for tomorrow, including Sam’s Run, Upper Chilcoot, and Snake Bite for a grand total of 115 acres of freshly groomed terrain. Surface conditions are machine groomed and packed powder with average base depths of 12 to 42 inches. Currently it is 5 degrees at the summit of Sterling with clear skies. Tomorrow’s forecast is calling for partly sunny skies with a chance of some snow showers and half an inch of accumulation possible with a high of 19 degrees.
