“Busta” Rime Ice

Rockin’ Ron for Hugh. There may be no snow where you are, but we have it here! Mtn. Ops Maestro Mike McAdoo sent some photos from the summit this morning, proving we have winter weather up here! Rime ice is white ice that freezes to surfaces at higher elevations, sometimes we gotta bust it off the lifts. Today we’ll have 46 trails (26 groomed) open and 6 lifts operating. Madonna I is closed today, and possibly tomorrow due to snowmaking operations. We are currently making snow on Upper FIS – aka Fizz or as Snoop Dog says Fizzizille. Ski U soon.

Have Guitar will… SKI!

Rockin’ Ron for Hugh. Worked on a video for Ski Shanty today with Thaddeus and Caleb. It’s a sea shanty about skiing at Smuggs and name-checks the trails Rumrunners’, Bootleggers’, and Smugglers’ Alley. Garrett of the Marketing Department did the artwork. The song was inspired by Smuggs Guest Kim Reigel.

We have top-to-bottom skiing and riding on all 3 mountains with terrain for all abilities! We plan to have 5 lifts operating tomorrow (including Madonna I), with 65 trails open and 27 trails groomed (including Upper Chilcoot and Snake Bite).

There is a Winter Weather Advisory tonight through Wednesday night that includes snow (2-4″ possible), a wintry mix, and high winds. Due to that weather, all Uphill Access will be closed from Wednesday night through Saturday morning. Tonight, there is Uphill Access on Morse from 5:00 pm – 10:00 pm and Wednesday on Sterling from 5:30 am – 7:30 am.

Catch the Natch and Sheen Made

Rockin’ Ron for Hugh. The Madonna I Lift is slated to run this Saturday, and more trails will open with it. Today’s story is SNOW – natural (natch) and machine (sheen) made. 6 inches have fallen in the past 24 hours, and 28 inches total in the past week. Also, the snowmakers have been busier than one-legged pirates in a keister-kicking contest – they’re making snow all over Madonna. No Uphill Access on Sterling and Madonna, but there is Uphill Access on Morse from 5p-10p Friday – Wednesday. I had another great day skiing & riding with my friend and Activities co-worker Seth “Carv-ison” Crevison! Our trail picks… Poachers Woods and Lower Pipeline to Treasure Run. What were your trail picks (leave them in the comments)? Ski U soon!

More SNOW forecasted!

Rockin’ Ron for Hugh. We could get up to 7 inches of snow today to add to the 22 inches we’ve recieved in the past week! The Madonna I Lift and some Madonna trails are closed due to snowmaking operations. 5 lifts are operating – including Madonna II – accessing 47 trails. 22 trails, totalling 96 acres, have been groomed for today including Smugglers’ Alley. There’s currently no Uphill Access on Sterling and Madonna, but there is on Morse from 5-10 pm, Friday – Wednesday. Ski U soon!

Thumbs Up from Patrol.

Weather Update / Wednesday Operations

From Smugglers’ Notch Management: Weather conditions are expected to deteriorate considerably overnight Tuesday into Wednesday morning.  The current forecast rolls out like this:  3-4” of wet snow from 8 pm Tuesday night until about 1 am Wednesday when it transitions to rain.  Rain continues into the morning, transitioning to showers.  Winds are the main problem with this storm.  We’re looking at sustained winds at the base area in the 40+ mph range from 9 pm Tuesday to 5 am Wednesday when they begin to subside.  Winds are expected to gust into the 70 mph range at the base and near 90 mph at the summits.  Considerable tree damage is possible, along with power outages.  With this in mind, we are planning to open at noon on Wednesday across all lifts, giving us a chance to clean up and make sure conditions are safe to ski and ride on Wednesday afternoon.

Rockin’ Ron for Hugh. Meanwhile, today, I had fun skiing and riding on Sterling Mountain with my friend and co-worker Seth from Activities (Tubing Hill, Winter Carnival, Bingo, Family Events, Bonfires, and more). Smugglers’ Alley was skiing nicely – evidence below. Proud to say “I am a Smuggler.”

Family Fun and SUN!

Rockin’ Ron for Hugh. It was Crystal Blue Persuasion at Smuggs today. To be outside on such a beautiful day lifts your spirits – to be outside SKIING on such a beautiful day lifts your spirits even HIGHER!! We had 15 groomed trails to groove on. My trail pick was Garden Path. Patrol’s was Snake Bite. We expect a similar trail count tomorrow, and we may even get some SNOW (cross your fingers… not your skis). Ski U soon.

The Quintoros of Montreal, QC enjoy a day of sunshine and skiing & riding!
