Birch Run Terrain Park is now open with 3 jumps and 2 rails. We have skiing and riding on all 3 mountains. We have 5 lifts operating today; Sterling Lift, Village Lift, Madonna II Lift, Mogul Mouse’s Magic Lift, and Sir Henry’s Glider. We now have 38 trails open with terrain for all ability levels. 21 out of the 38 trails have been groomed for today, including Smugglers’ Alley, Snow Snake, and Lower FIS for a grand total of 89 acres of freshly groomed terrain. Surface conditions are machine groomed and variable with average base depths of 6 to 32 inches. We are presently making snow on Playground, Lower Madonna Liftline, and McPherson’s. Currently, it is 10 degrees at the summit of Sterling with flurries and winds of 5 to 10 mph. Today’s forecast is calling for a chance of snow early then skies becoming sunny in the afternoon and a high of 21 degrees. Temperatures will be falling throughout the day.

Snowmaking resumes tonight on Sterling Mountain. 29 trails will be groomed for tomorrow, including McPherson’s, Snow Snake, and Jolly Rodger for a grand total of 117 acres of freshly groomed terrain. Currently, it is partly sunny and 4 degrees at the summit of Sterling. Tomorrow’s forecast is calling for partly sunny skies with a high of 11 degrees.
Employees are red-flagged for this weekend. They can ski or ride on the all mountains from 8:00 am till 10:00 am.
Uphill travel closed on Sterling Mountain Friday, February 12th due to snowmaking. Uphill travel open on Madonna Mountain is available from 5:30 am till 7:30 am on open trails only and no dogs.

The Birch Run Terrain Park has two jumps and 5 rails. Tomorrow we plan to have skiing and riding on all 3 mountains with 6 lifts operating. The Madonna I lift will not open tomorrow. In the case of a lift evacuation, the icy surface on Madonna Liftline would make it hard to get the skiers and rider off the mountain safely. Thank you for your understanding. We plan to have 32 trails open for tomorrow with terrain for all ability levels. Surface conditions are machine groomed and variable with average base depths of 14 to 52 inches. 31 trails will be groomed for tomorrow, including Playground, Snow Snake, and Smugglers’ Alley for a grand total of 114 acres of freshly groomed terrain. Tomorrow we plan to have top to bottom skiing and riding on all 3 mountains with 7 lifts operating, including the Madonna I Lift. We have 77 out of 78 trails open with terrain for all ability levels. Surface conditions are packed powder and machine groomed with average base depths of 16 to 54 inches. 33 trails will be groomed for tomorrow, including McPherson’s, Dixie’s Knoll, and Smugglers’ Alley for a grand total of 133 acres of freshly groomed terrain. Last night we made snow in the Zone Terrain Park. Currently, it is cloudy and 23 degrees at the summit of Sterling with winds of 15 to 30 mph. Tomorrow’s forecast is calling for mostly cloudy skies with a high of 22 degrees. This holiday week the lift schedule is Sterling Lift and Village Lift opening at 8:00 am. The Madonna I Lift will be open 8:30 am. All the other lifts will open at 9:00 am.

We received 2 inches of new snow in the past 24 hours and we are just getting started. There is a Winter Storm Warning starting tonight through Thursday. Tonight’s forecast is calling for snow with 3 to 5 inches of accumulation. Tomorrow’s forecast is snow and another 5 to 9 inches of accumulation possible with a high of 29 degrees. Temperatures will be falling tomorrow afternoon. Snow showers are in the forecast for tomorrow night with another 1 to 2 inches of accumulation. We plan to resume snowmaking tomorrow night. We plan to have top to bottom skiing and riding on all 3 mountains with 6 lifts operating, including the Madonna I lift. We have 25 trails open with terrain for all ability levels. More trails may open throughout the day tomorrow. Surface conditions are machine groomed and packed powder with average base depths of 10 to 46 inches. 24 out of the 25 trails will be groomed for tomorrow for a grand total of 103 acres of freshly groomed terrain. Robin Frey is a snowboarder and skier from West Virginia. He is on break from school and is enjoying his time off here at Smuggs. Robin and his family are staying here at Smuggs. This is Robin’s first time vacationing at Smuggs and I bet it won’t be his last. Robin told me that he enjoys terrain parks, so I told him that the Birch Run Terrain Park on Sterling Mountain opened yesterday. This information put a smile on Robin’s face as he headed for the Birch Run Terrain Park.
