It just keeps snowing

We received 7 inches of new snow in the past 24 hours and over 2 feet in the past 5 days. We could see another 10 inches of new snow before the weekend at higher elevations. Tomorrow we plan to have top to bottom skiing and riding on all 3 mountains with 5 lifts operating, including the Madonna I Lift. We have 66 trails open with terrain for all ability levels. We plan to groom 22 trails, including Drifter, Curley’s Cutback, and Thomke’s for a grand total of 99 acres of freshly groomed terrain. Surface conditions are packed powder and powder with average base depths of 12 to 46 inches. We are presently making snow on Black Snake, Snake Bite, and Birch Run. We plan to have these trails open for the weekend. Currently, it is snowing and 11 degrees at the summit of Sterling with winds of 5 to 10 mph. Tomorrow’s forecast is calling for cloudy skies with snow showers 1 to 3 inches of accumulation possible and a high of 25 degrees.

Doc Dempsey’s Glades

Armand loving the great conditons
They were having too much fun to stop!

I started my day off with a nice long run from the summit of Madonna back to the Village. I skied Upper Chilcoot, Catwalk, Upper FIS, Lower Doc Dempsey’s, Ruthie’s, Curley’s Cutback, and then Meadowlark. The wind had moved the snow around a little bit. I had a great time playing in the drifted snow. I was lucky enough to catch up with a few friends and most of my family for a few runs. We had a wonderful time playing on Madonna and Sterling Mountain. We skied Upper FIS, Doc Dempsey’s, Bermuda, Mustache Glades, and Upper Exhibition. The mild temperatures kept the snow nice and soft today.

Tomorrow we plan to have top to bottom skiing and riding on all 3 mountains with 6 lifts operating, including the Madonna I lift. We plan to have 77 out of 78 trails open with terrain for all ability levels. Surface conditions are machine groomed and variable with average base depths of 20 to 60 inches. 23 trails will be groomed for tomorrow for a grand total of 110 acres of freshly groomed terrain. Currently, it is cloudy and 28 degrees at the summit of Sterling. Tomorrow’s forecast is calling for fog early then partly sunny skies with a high of 42 degrees.

Smuggs Family Members

I met the Triuzio family last night on the Cat Trax Tour to the summit of Madonna. The father Frank told me “we found Smuggs 10 years ago and we have been coming here ever since. We also want to come to Smuggs in the summertime to check out all the activities and the notch.” It was wonderful to meet you and I hope you enjoy the rest of your vacation! We look forward to seeing you this summer!

The new snow that we received last night is nice and heavy. This allows the new snow to stick to the existing snow. Ski Patrol has opened many trails this morning due to the new snow; like Black Hole, Upper Madonna Liftline down to the work road, Upper Drifter, Shuttle, Red Fox Glades, and Goat Path. Some of these trails may not be open all day long, so you should hit them up early! Fantastic conditions!

Another beautiful sunny day here at Smuggs with temperatures in the 20’s and 30’s. Our groomers pushed out the snowmaking whales on Lower Chilcoot and that opened today. We also opened McPherson’s, Playground, and Dan’s Ford. Our snowmakers were busy last night on Birch Run and Curley’s Cutback. Tomorrow we plan to have top to bottom skiing and riding on all 3 mountains with 7 lifts operating, including the Madonna I Lift and the Sterling T-Bar. We have 49 trails open with terrain for all ability levels. Surface conditions are packed powder and machine groomed with average base depths of 14 to 50 inches. 29 trails will be groomed for tomorrow for a grand total of 126 acres of freshly groomed terrain. Currently, it is 27 degrees at the summit of Sterling with winds of 0 to 5 mph. Tomorrow’s forecast is calling for partly sunny skies with a high of 35 degrees.

Another beautiful day

I want to thank our snowmakers for doing a great job on Upper FIS! I skied it this morning and it was fantastic. There are nice big smooth snowmaking whales from Catwalk all the way down to Mulcahy’s Link. I had a great time playing on the piles of snow. The snow is chalky and very edgeable. I also skied Smugglers’ Alley this morning. Our groomers did a wonderful job on it last night. It was so much fun to carve big turns down the smooth steep pitch. Today’s forecast is calling for partly sunny skies with a high of 33 degrees. Currently it is partly sunny and 25 degrees at the summit of Madonna with no wind! Enjoy this gorgeous day!

Beautiful sunny afternoon

The Madonna I Lift
Amazing views from the summit of Madonna
Upper Chilcoot just above the top of Waterfall

Today started off with cloudy skies and ended up with bluebird skies! The Madonna I Lift opened for the season today. I rode Madonna I this morning and the summit was in cloud cover. It was great to be skiing from the top of Madonna, but I was missing the great views. The clouds cleared out by lunchtime and I headed back up the Madonna I Lift. Once I got to the summit I did not want to ski down. I just wanted to soak up the sunshine and 360-degree views.

Tomorrow we plan to have top to bottom skiing and riding on all 3 mountains with 7 lifts operating, including Madonna I. We have 22 trails open with terrain for all ability levels. All 22 trails will be groomed for tomorrow for a grand total of 92 acres of freshly groomed terrain. Surface conditions are machine groomed and variable with average base depths of 12 to 48 inches. We are presently making snow on Upper FIS. Currently, it is sunny and 25 degrees at the summit of Sterling with winds of 0 to 5 mph. Tomorrow’s forecast is calling for partly sunny skies early with increasing clouds and a high of 32 degrees. Happy Holidays!
