We started out with 29 trails this morning and that count fluctuated as conditions softened and nearly all the trails on Madonna and Sterling Mountains opened, for a total of 62. I hate to be Debbie Downer or Donnie Darko, but that trail count will again fluctuate, due to the expected freezing rain and wintry mix tonight and into Wednesday. Registration for this free event starts at 10:00 am at the Smugglers’ Notch tent in Parking Lot 1 for the first 100 people only. The first skimmer launches toward the pond at 12:00 noon. Today we have top-to-bottom skiing and riding on all 3 mountains with 4 lifts operating, including the Madonna I Lift. We have 73 trails open with terrain for all ability levels. 33 trails have been groomed for today, including Shuttle, Drifter, Smugglers’ Alley, Jolly Rodger, Snow Snake, and Howie’s Wanderer for a grand total of 133 acres of freshly groomed terrain. Surface conditions are packed powder and machine groomed with average base depths of 12 to 54 inches. Currently, it is sunny and 24 degrees at the summit of Sterling with winds of 5 to 10 mph. Today’s forecast is calling for sunny skies early with increasing clouds, a high of 39 degrees at the base, and 31 degrees at higher elevations. Great conditions!
Due to the forecasted extreme cold temperatures for Friday, February 3rd, Smugglers’ has made the decision to cease mountain operations for the safety of our guests and staff. Wind chills are expected to hit a low of -40 degrees on the mountain.
At this time, we are expecting Saturday, February 4th mountain operations to be impacted as well. For this reason, we have decided to limit operations on Madonna & Sterling Mountains. Additional delays may occur for Morse Mountain Operations. Please visit our Snow Report for the most up-to-date information.
All Snow Sport University lessons and camp programs scheduled for Friday, 2/3 have been canceled as well as morning programs for Saturday, 2/4.

The last day of the 2020 / 2021 Winter season is this Saturday, April 10th. We plan to have Sterling Lift and/or Madonna I Lift operating depending on snow coverage. Tomorrow we plan to have Sterling Lift operating with 12 trails open. Bootlegger is open for now from Smugglers’ Alley. We only have intermediate and expert terrain available at this time. Surface conditions are machine groomed and spring conditions with average base depths of 6 to 38 inches. 8 trails will be groomed for tomorrow, including Black Snake, Practice Slope, and Birch Run for a grand total of 38 acres of freshly groomed terrain. It is currently sunny and 56 degrees at the summit of Sterling. Tomorrow’s forecast is calling for mostly sunny skies with a high of 71 degrees at the base and 62 degrees in the upper elevations.

It was another great day of spring skiing and riding. I want to thank our groomers for doing a great job on Smugglers’ Alley last night. I had my stiffer skis on this morning and Smugglers’ Alley was my trail of choice. Beautiful corduroy to cruise on! Once the snow started to soften up I switched to a wider, softer ski and went looking for the corn. Patrol dropped the rope on Thomke’s Express and Bootlegger from the work road. I had to ski them and had a blast. I would have to say that my favorite run in the afternoon was Snake Bite. It has not been groomed in a while and it has some nice big soft bumps!
Tomorrow we plan to have the Sterling Lift operating with 15 trails open. We only have intermediate and expert terrain available at this time. Some trails will have a delayed opening until they soften up. 9 trails will be groomed for tomorrow, including Smugglers’ Alley, Black Snake, Birch Run, Practice Slope, and Rumrunner for a grand total of 37 acres of freshly groomed terrain. It is currently sunny and 41 degrees at the summit of Sterling. Tomorrow’s forecast is calling for mostly sunny skies with of high of 61 degrees at the base and 52 degrees in the higher elevations.

All 8 lifts will be open from 9:00 am till 5:00 pm this Saturday, March 20. This change will occur this Saturday only. The weather is going to be a little cool first thing on Saturday morning, but the temperature is going to rise quickly. This way you can sleep in a bit and still get to enjoy some great skiing and riding till 5:00 pm! Please tell your friends.
Today we had winter conditions at the higher elevations and spring conditions down low with some fog in between. We received a dusting of new snow on the upper mountains. I skied Upper FIS this morning. It was groomed last night and with the new snow on top made for some nice turns. Colder temperatures for tonight and tomorrow. The weekend is looking fantastic with sunny skies, temperatures reaching into the 40’s on Saturday and 50’s on Sunday.
Tomorrow we plan to have top to bottom skiing and riding on all 3 mountains with 5 lifts operating, including the Madonna I Lift. We have 48 trails open with terrain for all ability levels. Surface conditions are variable and machine groomed with base depths of 14 to 48 inches. 35 trails will be groomed, including Upper FIS, Drifter, Smugglers’ Alley, Ruthie’s, and Thomke’s for a grand total of 135 acres of freshly groomed terrain. Black Snake will be closed from the meadows down tomorrow for a GS race. Snake Bite, Jolly Rodger, and Full Nelson will also be closed during the race. The race should be finished sometime around noon. Currently, it is cloudy and 28 degrees at the summit of Sterling. Tomorrow’s forecast is calling for mostly sunny skies with a high of 29 degrees.
We are making snow around the clock on Sterling Mountain. We are concentrating our efforts on Black Snake, Snake Bite, and the Practice Slope.

Today’s forecast is calling for mostly cloudy skies with a slight chance of snow late in the day and a high of 37 degrees. The forecast is calling for snow this weekend with up to 10 inches of accumulation possible by Sunday night.
