Trails, Treetops, and Tweets

June in Vermont is a perfect time to head outside and listen. From early morning walks to quiet afternoon strolls, the woods, meadows, and mountaintops are full of birds singing, flying, and nesting. You don’t have to be an expert to enjoy it; bring your eyes, ears, and a little curiosity. Nature puts on a show, and everyone’s invited. Bright red Scarlet Tanagers, tiny buzzing warblers, swooping hawks, and chirping thrushes are just a few of the birds you might spot. Some, like the blaze orange Baltimore Oriole, can be seen in and around our sugar maple forests. Fun Fact: They LOVE orange or grape jelly.  Others, like the Hermit Thrush (Vermont’s State Bird), tend to be shy and secretive, and might act like they’re playing a game of hide and seek with you, darting in and out of cover. Birding is a fun and ageless way to slow down and explore, alone or together. Bring along a pair of binoculars, a notebook to draw what you see, or just enjoy the peaceful sounds all around. Whether you’re visiting Vermont or lucky enough to call it home, birding, especially in June, is a great way to connect with nature, stretch your legs, and make memories that don’t fly away.

Want to start birding? Check out this helpful guide from the Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department to get started. While staying in the village, try one of our self-guided hikes. These well-marked and easy-to-follow woodland paths put you right in the bullseye for seeing many different species. Take down simple observations like size, location, what the bird was doing, and its main colors. Use that data later to help make a species identification. For the kids, turn it into a treasure hunt; how many colors can you find in the trees, how many songs can you count, or who can spot a bird building a nest?

Tuesday Nights Just Got Better

When your shadow starts to stretch, and the tree swallows are swooping through the summer breeze, there’s only one place to be: the Backyard BBQ Bash on the Village Green
Every Tuesday night from 5:00 to 8:00 on the Village Green.
No RSVP, no fuss, just show up.

This isn’t your average Tuesday. We kick things off with the sleight-of-hand, but not of humor, wizardry of Marko the Magician. After that, Jammin’ Sam takes over with live acoustic music that sets the tone for a laid-back night. All the while, classic lawn games are out and ready to go. Food and drinks are available for purchase from Morse Mountain Grille, and yes, there’s a full-blown s’mores bar to seal the deal. So, whether you’re chasing kids around the Green, catching up with friends, or just vibing to the tunes with a cold drink in hand, this is your midweek chance to slow down and settle into summer.

Community Concert

Saturday night, June 28, at Boyden Farm, the air warms with the smell of newly mowed grass, char-grilled burgers, piping hot pizza, and fresh pocket pies. Neighbors and friends drift toward the barn, drawn by the pull of music and the promise of a good time. The Phil Abair Band rolls out their set with familiar favorites that will forever bring a smile to your face. One hand’s balancing a maple creemee from Palmer’s, the other’s raising a glass from the bar, because summer nights this good deserve the libations to match. Lights twinkle against the long-lasting June sky as the sun slowly drops low, casting the dance floor in gold and shadows. It’s an evening of simple pleasures, good tunes, great food, and the kind of company that will make you want to party in a barn more often.  More info…

Full Send Pizza and Provisions

Opening June 21st on Mountain Road, Full Send Pizza & Provisions is the delicious creation of locals Billy and Ian. They’re serving up classic, no-frills pizza with serious flavor, starting with a high-hydration, long-fermented dough for that perfect chewy, crispy crust. The homemade sauce and house-made meatballs (from family recipes) are must-tries, and there are over a dozen specialty pies to explore.

But it’s not just pizza—think melty paninis, stacked sandwiches on NYC rolls, fresh salads, VT creemees, and ice-cold take-out drinks. The space has a relaxed mountain-town vibe, complete with live-edge tables and a retro Coca-Cola menu board locals may remember. It’s open Thursday–Monday, 11:30 am – 9:00 pm, with delivery to Smuggs condos—the only delivery in town!
