Every day Notch Squad campers will be able to create their own experience by choosing which itinerary they wish to join. Campers will arrive at the Notch Squad tent in the morning to review a menu of options for the day; Adventure & Games, Nature & Hiking, Arts & Crafts, or Sound & Stage.
Monday's Choices —
Campers Choice From volleyball and capture the flag, to disc golf and tag games, there is a ton to do in the fields and forests around Bootleggers’ Basin.
Ancient Forest & Beaver Pond Spend the morning traveling to and exploring a nearby ancient forest. Campers will also investigate a nearby beaver colony made up of dozens of pools, dams, and a big beaver lodge all while learning about one of the most intriguing natural inhabitants of our area.
Tie Dye & Styled Sunglasses The possibilities with tie dye are endless. Come try making new patterns and designs with a t-shirt provided by Smuggs! While you’re at it fashion a new pair of sunnies using fun new materials and your own creativity!
Meet, Greet, and Move We’ll get acquainted by sharing songs, dances, and skits from home. By the end of the day we’ll start thinking about what to perform on Thursday.
Tuesday's Choices —All Notch Squad groups will go to Bootleggers’ Basin for a fun day of swimming, games, crafts, nature exploration and more. Please wear sturdy shoes. Campers can pack a bag lunch or purchase one from our lunch program.Obstacle Race Course & Field Games Spend the afternoon at Bootleggers’ Basin playing field games and trying out our NEW obstacle race course that weaves its way through the woods.
Living with Nature Campers will learn about modern camping by heading out to the woods for the day. Activities will include setting up a campsite, finding and using natural materials that can be found in the forest, and learning the principles of “leave no trace” while investigating the forest around Bootleggers’ Basin!
Snap Back Trucker Hats Come try your hand at spray painting and stencil design to make your very own unique design. Wear your piece home that day!
Decision Day After a day and a half of dancing, singing, and acting, we’ll have a good feel for what the groups talents are. We’ll use your time lounging by Bootleggers’ Basin to decide on what type of performance we’ll go for on Thursday.
Wednesday's Choices —
Super Sports Day Campers will get to compete in any number of sporting options, from volleyball and basketball, to street hockey and disc golf! More sports to choose from than campers can play in one day!
Brewster River Gorge Campers explore the stunning Brewster River Gorge on a gentle hike to a waterfall that careens through a nearby canyon!
Duct Tape Madness If you can’t duct it then come out and learn creative ways to make unique projects that you can wear and use. Duct tape bracelets, rings, wallets, earrings, book covers, bags, and more!
Tune-Up Day Spend the day working on nailing down our performance for Thursday.
Thursday's Choices —
Woodland Adventure & Low Ropes Camper learn & play some brand new games, working our way throughout the forest, end up at our Low Ropes Course to practice some skills in preparation for the High Ropes Course on Friday!
Sterling Pond Hike Campers take on a challenging hike on the Long Trail through imposing geological
formations, fascinating nature, and stunning views of the Notch.
Up Cycle Bring new life to old commonly used items. Recreate t-shirts, tyvek wallets, mini terrariums and so much more. Make the old new with your take on fashion!
Sound & Stage/Dress Rehearsal We’ll practice for the evening’s performance, then finish the day with a performance at the
Vermont Country Fair at 5:00 pm.
Fridays Choices! —
High Ropes Adventure Campers challenge their mind and body as they maneuver around obstacles on our High Ropes Course.
Hogback Diversity Hike NEW this year! We’ll head down the road to an extraordinary section of Vermont’s Long Trail. This hike will focus on identifying many of the different types of biodiversity in our pocket of Vermont including trees, plants, and birds. The hike will finish in style with a suspension bridge crossing of the Lamoille River!
Who Brought the Cool Kid? Make your own stickers to add style to whatever you can stick them on! Make fashionable jewelry and wallets using our colorful duct tape. Spend the rest of the day silk screening your tie dye from Monday!
Review & Recap We’ll review last night’s performance and talk about new ideas. We’ll try out some things that weren’t able to get to throughout the week!
Saturday & Sunday's Choices —
Choose Your Adventure! – On weekends we combine all the minors so every camper will be able to choose from a variety of activities which may include parachutes, ice cream making, boat making, GPS tracking, nature hikes, field games, and challenge games. This is a great chance for campers to experience all of our exciting minors so they can then choose a minor for the upcoming week or when they return next Summer.
CLOSE Our activities are all CHALLENGE BY CHOICE. This means that if at any point one of the campers does not feel comfortable with any activity, he/she can either step aside and observe, or counselors may help him/her to find a more comfortable way to be a part of the group, without doing the specific activity.
Children in Notch Squad programs are grouped by ages 11-12 & 13-15 years. Youth to Counselor Ratio 1:12.
