Notch Squad and fun activities for children and teens!

Notch Squad Camp (click for details)
For Ages 11 - 15 years.
Offered daily, 10:00 am - 4:00 pm.

Notch Squad groups stay together throughout and have the flexibility to choose what they want to do!

Choose your own day with something for everyone! Notch Squad groups will stay together throughout the day, but still have the flexibility to choose what they want to do! Campers will get the chance to pick the counselor and itinerary that most appeals to them and go from there. If the group decides to switch it up mid-day, the group will have the power to make it happen! Every day will include swimming and games.

Tuesday is Bootleggers’ Basin day! Spend the afternoon at our beautiful Bootleggers’ Basin. All Notch Squad campers will hike to the basin after an early lunch and spend the afternoon swimming and participating in activities in the fields around Bootleggers’ Basin including our NEW obstacle race course that weaves through the woods.

Every day Notch Squad campers will be able to create their own experience by choosing which itinerary they wish to join. Campers will arrive at the Notch Squad tent in the morning to review a menu of options for the day; Adventure & Games, Nature & Hiking, Arts & Crafts, or Sound & Stage.

Monday's Choices —
Forest Games
Kick the week off with adventures in the woods. Play eagle eye, camouflage, capture the flag, and all sorts of other games designed for forest fun. After lunch try out some of our unique sporting options, like disc golf where campers can explore the Brewster Ridge Disc Golf Course.
Living with Nature Campers will learn about modern camping by heading out to the woods for the day. Activities will include setting up a campsite, finding and using natural materials that can be found in the forest, and learning the principles of "leave no trace" while investigating the forest.
Tie Dye & Stencils The possibilities with tie dye are endless. Come try making new patterns and designs with a t-shirt provided by Smuggs! While your shirt is soaking you can try your hand at stencils!
Meet, Greet, and Move We’ll get acquainted by sharing songs, dances, and skits from home. By the end of the day we’ll start thinking about what to perform on Thursday.

Tuesday's Choices —
All Notch Squad groups will go to Bootleggers’ Basin for a fun day of swimming, games, crafts, nature exploration and more. Please wear sturdy shoes. Campers can pack a bag lunch or purchase one from our lunch program.
Obstacle Race Course & Field Games Spend the afternoon at Bootleggers’ Basin playing field games and trying out our NEW obstacle race course that weaves its way through the woods.
Ancient Forest & Beaver Pond Spend the morning traveling to and exploring a nearby ancient forest. Campers will also investigate a nearby beaver colony made up of dozens of pools, dams, and a big beaver lodge all while learning about one of the most intriguing natural inhabitants of our area.
Snap Back Trucker Hats Come try your hand at spray painting and stencil design to make your very own unique design. Wear your piece home that day!
Decision Day After a day and a half of dancing, singing, and acting, we’ll have a good feel for what the groups talents are. We’ll use your time lounging by Bootleggers’ Basin to decide on what type of performance we’ll go for on Thursday.

Wednesday's Choices —
Super Sports Day
Campers will get to compete in any number of sporting options, from volleyball and basketball, to street hockey and disc golf! More sports to choose from than campers can play in one day!
Brewster River Gorge Campers explore the stunning Brewster River Gorge on a gentle hike to a waterfall that careens through a nearby canyon!
Up Cycle Bring new life to old commonly used items. Recreate t-shirts, tyvek wallets, mini terrariums and so much more. Make the old new with your take on fashion!
Tune-Up Day Spend the day working on nailing down our performance for Thursday.

Thursday's Choices —
Woodland Adventure & Low Ropes
Camper learn & play some brand new games, working our way throughout the forest, end up at our Low Ropes Course to practice some skills in preparation for the High Ropes Course on Friday!
Sterling Pond Hike Campers take on a challenging hike on the Long Trail through imposing geological
formations, fascinating nature, and stunning views of the Notch.
Duct Tape Madness If you can’t duct it then come out and learn creative ways to make unique projects that you can wear and use. Duct tape bracelets, rings, wallets, earrings, book covers, bags, and more!
Sound & Stage/Dress Rehearsal We’ll practice for the evening’s performance, then finish the day with a performance at the Vermont Country Fair at 5:00 pm.

Fridays Choices! —
High Ropes Adventure
Campers challenge their mind and body as they maneuver around obstacles on our High Ropes Course.
Hogback Diversity Hike NEW this year! We’ll head down the road to an extraordinary section of Vermont’s Long Trail. This hike will focus on identifying many of the different types of biodiversity in our pocket of Vermont including trees, plants, and birds. The hike will finish in style with a suspension bridge crossing of the Lamoille River!
Who Brought the Cool Kid? Make your own stickers to add style to whatever you can stick them on! Make fashionable jewelry and wallets using our colorful duct tape. Spend the rest of the day silk screening your tie dye from Monday!
Review & Recap We’ll review last night’s performance and talk about new ideas. We’ll try out some things that we weren’t able to get to throughout the week!

Saturday & Sunday's Choices —
Choose Your Adventure!
– On weekends we combine all the minors so every camper will be able to choose from a variety of activities which may include parachutes, ice cream making, boat making, GPS tracking, nature hikes, field games, and challenge games. This is a great chance for campers to experience all of our exciting minors so they can then choose a minor for the upcoming week or when they return next Summer.

General Information

Our activities are all CHALLENGE BY CHOICE. This means that if at any point one of the campers does not feel comfortable with any activity, he/she can either step aside and observe, or counselors may help him/her to find a more comfortable way to be a part of the group, without doing the specific activity.

Children in Notch Squad programs are grouped by ages 11-12 & 13-15 years. Youth to Counselor Ratio 1:12.

Children's Program Lunch: For your convenience, we invite your children to participate in our optional Children’s Program Lunch at an additional fee of $7.25 per child, per day, plus tax. The lunch buffet includes:

What should you wear?
• Sturdy sneakers or hiking shoes. NO SANDALS or Crocks allowed.
• Dress for an active outdoor day, including sweatshirt, light jacket or raincoat if needed.
• Please label all of your belongings.

Pizza and Bonfire Party (click for details)
Ages 13 - 15. Tuesdays 5:00 pm.
Come spend an evening with your favorite Notch Squad counselors at the Madonna Base Lodge.
The night will start off with a pizza dinner followed by floor hockey, doge ball, other outdoor games and music. The Notch Squad counselors will build a bonfire and campers will be able to roast marshmallows, and make s’mores. Please bring study shoes and a warm sweatshirt or sweater. After the party, campers will be dropped off at the Welcome Sign in the Village Center at 9:30pm. Every camper will receive a one-of-a-kind t-shirt.

$29 first child, $20 each additional child in family. Additional child rate applies only to children on the same reservation. Sign up at the Guest Service Desk by 12:00 noon on Tuesday.

High Adventure Experience Camp (click for details)

Learn or improve technique, develop tennis strategies and of course play games!
Skateboard Camp (click for details)
For ages 9 - 17 years.
Tuesday & Wednesday, 9:00 am - 3:30 pm.

Do you have the desire but are lacking the skills? This 2-day Skateboard Camp will help get you in tune. Focus on the fundamentals of balance, position, stopping, falling techniques and skating safety or learn new tricks.

Golf Programs for Kids

Junior Intro to Golf — Open to ages 5 - 17.
This clinic is an introduction to the sport with a focus on the fundamentals, golf etiquette, beginning to swing, the importance of safety and FUN!
Tuesday & Wednesday, 4:30 pm - 5:30 pm. $25 per person.

Great Golf Escape for Beginners — Open to ages 13 & older.
Get started with the great game of golf in this one day program. Learn grip, posture and alignment along with swing fundamentals in the morning. Enjoy on course instruction in the afternoon at a local country club where you’ll play 3 or 4 holes and learn golf rules, etiquette and the “how to’s” of managing your game.
Tuesday, 9:00 am - 4:00 pm, $129 per person, lunch included, must provide own transportation. Under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Great Golf Escape requires sneakers or soft spikes for on-course play. Golf clubs provided if needed. Advanced registration is recommended.

Tennis Lessons for Kids

Beginner - Intermediate Junior Clinic — Open to ages 9 - 15.
This clinic is designed for those players who have never played, have played very little, or could just use some extra work on the FUNdamentals of tennis. Tennis racquet provided if needed.
Monday & Friday, 1:00 pm - 1:45 pm, $21 per youth advanced registration recommended.

Intermediate - Advanced Junior Clinic — Open to ages 12 - 17.
This clinic is designed for players who have some tennis playing experience to those who are currently playing high school tennis. The emphasis will be on shot-making, controlling the ball, and net play.
Monday & Friday, 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm, $21 per youth advanced registration recommended.

Skateboard Clinics for Kids

Skate Clinic Level 1
Ages 7-18, Monday 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm; Tuesday 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm & Thursday 10:00 am - 11:30 am
Learn the basics of skateboarding and skateboarding safety in this kids only clinic. Learn balance and body position to gain comfort rolling and skating over changing terrain. Equipment provided. One and one half hour clinic. $30 per person.

Skate Clinic Level 2
Ages 7-18, Monday 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm & Thursday 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm
Take your skating up a notch in this hour and a half clinic. Learn the basics of skating ramps and features and the how to's of performing flat ground tricks in the Smuggs skate park. Previous skateboard experience is required. Equipment provided. Limited space available, advance registration required. $30 per person.

Skate Clinic Level 3
Ages 7-18, Thursday 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm
Learn to master tricks and ramps and ride the whole skate park. Get ready to take your skating to the next level. Previous skateboard experience is required. Equipment provided. Limited space available, advance registration required. $30 per person.

American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim Program

Do you have trouble fitting in swim lessons for your children in your busy Summer schedule? Now you can incorporate your child’s and adult swim lessons into your Summer vacation! As an American Red Cross Authorized Provider, this Summer Smugglers' will once again be offering Red Cross Learn-to-Swim group lessons for ages 3-16 years.

These classes provide instruction to help swimmers develop their swimming and water safety skills. The program is designed to give students a positive learning experience. Learn-to-Swim teaches aquatic and safety skills in a logical progression. There are six learn-to-swim levels. Each level builds on skills learned in the previous level. Children who have not participated in Red Cross lessons previously will be placed appropriately based on their current swimming skills.

The Learn-to-Swim program will run Monday through Friday and classes will meet in the morning to permit children to participate in Summer Fun University for the rest of the day. Children ages 3-16 years are able to participate in this program. Classes will have a 1 instructor to 6 student teaching ratio. The cost is $80 for the sessions for Levels 1-4 and $115 for Levels 5 & 6.
