Sterling Ice Cliff

Peak Expeditions is pleased to offer a pay-per climb experience on the ice cliffs of Sterling Mountain. Just a ski lift ride away is one of the most adventurous thrills of a lifetime. Ride the Sterling lift and ski down Upper Rumrunners until where it goes under the Sterling lift - the ice cliff is directly adjacent. Strap on some crampons, grab some ice axes and give ice climbing a try with our experienced staff. $9 per climb or 3 consecutive climbs for $24, equipment provided, ages 11 & older. Must have a valid lift ticket, accessible by chairlift only. Ice Climb tickets can be purchased at the Base Lodge or Village Center ticket booths. Weather permitting. Program begins 12/17/11.
Avalanche Beacon Park

Have you ever thought about what it would be like to experience an avalanche? With more recreational skiers and riders traveling into the backcountry, now is the time to learn about snow safety. Anyone traveling into backcountry terrain should be carrying a transceiver and know how to use it. Peak Expeditions’ Avalanche Beacon Park is the east coasts’ only hard-wired training park! Using a series of buried transmitters and hand held receivers; participants will hone in on radio signals and rescue a buried ski “companion.” Finding all the transmitters will take skill and will provide a very educational and adventurous experience. $18 per person, ages 5 & older. This program meets at the Skate Park across from Sir Henry’s Hill. Weather permitting. Program begins 12/17/11.
Madonna Ice Canyon

Hooked on ice climbing after experiencing the Sterling Ice Cliff? The Madonna Ice Canyon is a great next step. Conveniently located adjacent to the Madonna ski lift, the Ice Canyon offers numerous ice climbing opportunities for beginners and more advanced alike. This 3-hour offering will introduce you to the equipment needed for snow, ice and mountaineering activities. You will hone your skills on progressively more difficult routes and enjoy the company of family and friends. $68 per person, ages 11 & older. This program meets in front of the Madonna/Sterling Base Lodge. Ski boots are required for this program, please visit 3 Mountain Equipment for rentals if needed. Weather permitting. Program begins 12/17/11.
