Dressing for Outdoor Fun

The Right Clothes
We recommend a warm jacket, ski pants, warm sweater or fleece, insulated mittens (no gloves or knitted mittens for children), heavy Winter socks (not cotton please) goggles, a neck gaiter (not a scarf) and a hat that covers the ears. Do not use loose clothing that can get caught on the lifts. For children, as well as adults, the best way to stay warm is to dress in layers. These clothing items can be purchased at 3 Mountain Outfitters.

Ski Boots that Fit
It is very important to get boots that fit. Boots should allow you to wiggle you toes. If you can't wiggle your toes, then your feet will be cold. However, boots should not allow you to turn your foot side-to-side within the boot. If you can turn your foot inside the boot, you won't be able to control your skis.

Ski & Snowboard Safety Check
Be sure to bring (or you can rent them here) skis and snowboards with steel edges, ski brakes, runaway straps or snowboard leashes. Have the bindings safety checked at an accredited sport shop. Our Repair Shop can check bindings when you arrive. Every size of equipment can be rented from 3 Mountain Equipment. Snowboard rentals are available for children as young as age 4, ski rentals for children as young as 2 years.

Helmets
Put a lid on it! NSAA, the trade association for ski areas across the country, recommends that parents, skiers and snowboarders make the right choice about wearing a helmet. It's up to you to educate yourself about their benefits and limitations. Ultimately, whether to wear a helmet is personal or parental choice. Helmets are available to rent or buy at 3 Mountain Equipment or you can purchase a helmet at 3 Mountain Outfitters.

Before Leaving Home, Remember To:


•	Inform your neighbors that you will be gone and when you will return.
•	Leave an extra house and car key with a neighbor.
•	Arrange for your mail and newspapers to be picked up.
•	Turn off gas, lights, and water.
•	Lock house, cellar, garage, windows, and doors.
•	Arrange for pet care while you are away. (Sorry, Smugglers’ doesn’t permit pets to vacation with you.)
•	Water plants.

Payments

Final Payment
We require that our guests provide a valid credit card at check-in as a payment guarantee. The card will be pre-authorized for the remaining balance and charged the night before check out. If you wish to use a different method of payment for the final balance, please let the Guest Service Desk know at check-in so your card is not charged.

Travel Protection Plan - Cancellation Policy
Deposits will be fully refunded for cancellations made 7 days or more prior to arrival. Other cancellation deposits will be applied to another stay within 2 years.

Activity Refund Policy
A full refund will be given for any Resort activity if cancelled prior to an hour before the activity. A 50% refund will be given if cancelled within an hour of an activity. No refund will be given after the activity has started. Private lessons must be cancelled at least an hour prior to lesson time to receive a refund.

Accommodations

Your accommodation is prepared for your arrival with towels, linens, bath soap, dish soap, cookware, dishes, glassware and most paper supplies. Linens can be exchanged or additional supplies picked up at the Village Operations Center at designated times.

Cots, cribs, bedrails, highchairs, and booster seats are available for rental with advance reservations. Some king-size beds are made up from two twins. VCRs are available in most homes. DVDs are available in some homes. VCR tapes and DVDs are available for rental in the Country Store.

Many homes have fireplaces which are either gas or wood burning. Firewood is provided. Kindling wood may be purchased at our Country Store.

On check-out day we would appreciate your assistance with turning off all electrical appliances and lights. Please bring your room keys to The Guest Service Desk by 10:00 am.

Check-in time: After 6:00 pm
Check-out time: Prior to 10:00 am

Early check-ins and late check-outs for your accommodations are not available, but you are welcome to use our facilities on your arrival and departure days. Our Guest Service Desk/Check-in Reception area is located in The Village Center near the Clock Tower and is open 24 hours a day for your convenience. Check-out later than 10:00 am will result in a late check-out fee. We ask that you observe this check-out time in order to provide our Housekeeping and Maintenance staffs with sufficient time to prepare the condominium for its next occupants.

Resort Services

Cash When You Need It
There is an ATM located in the Clock Tower building at the Smugglers’ Notch Village Center and at THe Madonna/Sterling Mountain Base Lodge. There are also two located in the nearby town of Jeffersonville... one at the Mobil station on the corner of Route 15 and Route 108 and one at the Union Bank on Main Street.

These machines service Yankee 24, Plus, Cirrus, 24 Hour Access, VISA, MasterCard, Discover, American Express, and Express Club. Not all card services are available at all locations.

Canadian Funds can be exchanged at The Guest Service Desk. The Union Bank can exchange other foreign currency with a transaction fee.

Daily Maid Service
Daily maid service is optional and easily arranged with our Vacation Planning Professionals at a nominal fee, based on the size of accommodation. For stays of more than 7 nights, a mid-stay linen change is included.

Mail & Delivery Services
US Postal, Federal Express and UPS pick up each business day at The Guest Service Desk.

Telephone Messages
Should you need to be reached during your vacation, please have your caller phone our switchboard at (802) 644-8851. The call will be forwarded to your accommodation. All of our Vacation Homes are equipped with voice mail. Emergency messages will be delivered.

Guest registration is made under one name. If you are lodging with more than one family name, advise your caller of the name under which the reservation was made. Outgoing long distance telephone calls from your accommodation require a calling card, a major credit card, collect call or third party billing. Calling Cards are available for purchase at the Country Store. We do not charge for local of toll-free calls.

Cell Phones
Reliable cellular service is available for Unicel and Sprint. Other carriers are not as reliable from within the Resort and roaming charges may apply. Calling cards are available for purchase at the Country Store.

FAX Sending & Receiving
A fee based FAX machine is available at The Guest Service Desk for FAX service. For incoming/outgoing FAX the first two pages are free and $1.00 for each additional page. The FAX number is (802) 644-1230.

Pets
Pets should be left at home or may be boarded nearby at the See Spot Run in Jeffersonville, (802) 644-8055 or Golden Brook Farm in Waterville, (802) 644-5147 with advance reservations. There are times, however, when our homeowners in our fully owned rental homes may bring their pets. If you are highly allergic, please let us know, and we will do our best to accommodate your needs.

Medical Emergencies
In the event of a medical emergency during your stay, you should contact “911” immediately with all available information including location and the patient's current condition. “911” will contact The Guest Service Desk and dispatch Cambridge Rescue Squad or Smugglers’ Security.
The Cambridge Regional Health Clinic and Kinney Drugs are located on route 15 West, approximately 8 miles from Smugglers' Notch Resort. The Health Clinic is by appointment only. Copley Hospital in Morrisville is a 30 minute drive East. Fletcher Allen Medical Center in Burlington is a 45 minute drive West of Smugglers' Notch.

Internet Services

Smugglers’ Notch offers several ways to connect to the Internet in case you need to check your email or just surf the net during your stay with us.

Computer Connections


•	Most of our homes have wireless DSL networks. Be aware that in order to access this fee-based service you will need a computer equipped with a wireless card. Wireless Network cards are available for sale at the Smugglers' Country Store. The service supports both the 802.11b and 802.11g wireless standards and the two major VPN Clients: VPN Pass-through and VPN NAT Traversal type connections. Multiple users in the same home may connect simultaneously once you establish your account. The following home does NOT have WiFi access: Sterling 3. The telephone line in your condominium can be used to connect to your modem. This is an analog line and will only access local or toll free numbers. To access an outside line dial "9", you do not need to dial "1". Please check with your service provider for the appropriate dial-up numbers. Please be aware that some service providers charge for this call.
•	Power Shift On-line Services is offering our guests the opportunity to have unlimited dial-up access with their 7-day Visitors Pass, for $9.95! All you have to do is call their toll free number: 877-949-7767 and set up the dates you need the service. There is no set up fee, 24/7 tech support and an automatic shut-off.

Business Center & Online Services

Our Business Center, located in The Meeting House, offers access to the Internet for those guests who need to stay connected while on vacation. Choose the service you need, the time you want and easily pay for it with a credit card.

The In-Resort On-Demand Village Shuttle
The On-Demand Village Shuttle runs daily from 8:00 am - 12:00 midnight throughout the Resort. The Shuttle is convenient for visiting our pools, The Country Store and 3 Mountain Outfitters as well as our restaurants, and the Teen Centers.

The Upper Mountain Shuttle
Take the Upper Mountain Shuttle to the base of Madonna and Sterling Mountains. The shuttle runs from 8:30 am - 4:30 pm from the Welcome Sign in The Village Center.

Our Guests Want to Know - Frequently Asked Questions

"Is the road between Stowe & Smugglers' Open?"
Route 108 through historic Smugglers’ Notch Pass is very steep and winding and is CLOSED in the Winter from mid-October through May. This 4 mile stretch of road connects Stowe and Smugglers’ Notch Resort. You may access Smugglers’ Notch Resort from the northerly direction via Route 15 to Route 108 South. Winter Directions

"Where do we check-in?"
As you turn left into our Resort from Route 108, bear right and then bear left and proceed to the parking lot on your left. Follow the signs for Guest Registration and Information. Walk under our Welcome Sign. The Guest Service Desk is located in The Village Center building behind the Clock Tower. Please check-in at The Guest Service Desk as soon as you arrive in the Resort, and then enjoy our facilities. Expect to be in your condominium home after 6:00 pm.

"What supplies will be in my Village Home?"
Homes are ready for your arrival with bath towels, linens, blankets and pillows. Your condominium will also have hotel size bars of bath soap, toilet paper, paper towels, dish towels, dish soap, sponges, trash bags and cleanser. We suggest you bring your hair dryer from home.

The kitchen in your Village Home includes pots, pans, plates, glasses, silverware, cooking utensils, a toaster and an auto-drip coffeemaker. All Village Homes (studio and larger) have a stove and refrigerator. All Village Homes either have a stacking washer and dryer or have access to a washer and dryer in the building. Private rooms do not have a kitchen.

We recommend bringing along items such as tissues, salt and pepper, plastic wrap, aluminum foil, napkins, powdered laundry soap, shampoo, and condiments. These items are alos available in The Country Store.

"Are towels provided at the pools?"
You are welcome to use the bath towels from your Village Home, but most people prefer a larger beach towel. We suggest that you bring along a beach towel from home to use at the pools.

"Does my accommodation provide a hair dryer?"
We suggest you bring your hair dryer from home.

"What is available for dining at the Resort?"
When it comes to dining, variety defines the Smugglers' menu of options. You'll find everything from on-mountain, cafeteria-style eateries to full-service restaurants including the Morse Mountain Grille & Pub, Riga-Bello's Pizzeria with Italian specialties, and fine dining at The Hearth & Candle, or choose breakfast and lunch from The Green Mountain Deli or a snack from Ben & Jerry's Scoop Shop. Not far from the Resort, but within a 10-minute drive, there are additional choices featuring ethnic, regional and continental cuisines.

Tips for traveling with your children


•	Be flexible. Go with the flow.
•	Bring water and plenty of snacks. Such as raisins, animal crackers, granola bars, small juice cartons, small boxes of dry cereal.
•	Bring along wipes for cleaning up.
•	Plan frequent rest stops. Break up your trip so your kids can stretch and run around to let out energy.
•	Make sure your car seat is properly secured.
•	Pack a goody bag. Always pack more toys than you think you will need.
•	Show your child pictures of your destination.
•	Convey excitement about your upcoming vacation.

Traveling to & from Canada

Beginning June 1, 2009, U.S. and Canadian citizens 19 years and older who enter the U.S. at land and sea ports of entry from within the Western Hemisphere will need to present government-issued photo ID, such as an enhanced driver's license or a passport as proof of identity. Children age 18 and under will be able to enter with proof of citizenship. Verbal claims of citizenship and identity alone will not be sufficient to establish identity and citizenship for entry into the United States.

U.S. resident aliens will also need a Green Card.

All other foreign country residents will need their valid passport with I94 document. If you are crossing the American/Canadian border and do not have your I94 document with you, you will need your valid passport and a visa. There will be a nominal fee to prepare the I94 documentation for you.
