Here comes the snow

Snow Sport University Ski Lesson on Lower Morse Liftline

Today started off with beautiful sunny skies, which lasted most of the morning. The clouds rolled in early in the afternoon and we went from flurries to snowing hard in a short amount of time. The snowflakes got really big for a while reducing visibility. The photo of Lower Morse Liftline shows the low visibility.

We received an inch of new snow this afternoon and we could see another inch of accumulation tonight.

We have top to bottom skiing and riding on all 3 mountains with 4 lifts operating. We have 42 trails open with terrain for all ability levels. 33 trails will be groomed for tomorrow, that’s 136 acres of freshly groomed terrain.

digging out the pond

We are getting ready for the 8th Annual Pond Skimming! I stopped by the Zone Terrain Park this afternoon and the pond is really starting to take shape. Grooming Manager Arlo Pouliot and Director of Mountain Operations Mike McAdoo were shaping the pond.  I am not sure what Mike or Arlo will make for the entrance to the pond. Will they make it smooth or will there be a jump?  They might even make both; who knows. I do know that it will be very exciting, entertaining, and a ton of fun!

Tomorrow we plan to have top to bottom skiing and

Spring conditions

Ski Patroller Chris Heimert enjoying the soft conditions on Black Snake

The mild temperatures today made the snow nice and soft.  I had a blast carving up Black Snake and Practice Slope. I love how the Practice Slope is nice and wide so you can lay out some huge GS turns.  The knob on skier’s right above mid point of the T-Bar is always fun to fly off.

Tomorrow we plan to have top to bottom skiing and riding on all 3 mountains with 4 lifts operating. We have 51 trails with terrain for all ability levels. 38 trails will be groomed for tomorrow, that’s 140 acres of freshly groomed terrain.

You never know Hugh you’ll see

Randy and Crew

Becky, Warren (Hugh Impersonator), Shirley, Randy with a y and not an i.

Rockin’ Ron for Hugh. As I skied around the mountain, I kept seeing this guy in a familiar Helly Hansen jacket. I yelled “Hey Hugh” but he didn’t answer. Turns out, I wasn’t the only one who was confused, several Lifties and Instructors had the same reaction. I finally met the mystery man and his name is Warren. He was skiing with his partner Shirley and long time Smugglers Randy and Becky. Randy told me about some bear tracks he saw under the Sterling Lift and some rabbit tracks under the Madonna Lift. I saw hide nor hare of either.

On the skiing front, I enjoyed runs on Upper Drifter and the Flowground. On the events front, we have some BIG DOINGS on Saturday with Pond Skimming, Chillin’ & Grillin’ Tail Gate Party and some others in and around the Resort! That leaves me on the back end of this Blog… ski ya later!
