Timing is everything. This morning, I was on the Madonna I Lift, and the rope was up at Catwalk for Madonna Liftline when I crossed over it. When I got to the summit of Madonna, I could see that Upper Madonna Liftline was open from the top. I did not waste any time, I hit the skier’s right side down to Catwalk. Just as I stopped, I noticed Ski Patroller Teigh dropping the rope to Upper Madonna Liftline, Black Hole, and Freefall. I could see a beautiful untouched spine drift on the skier’s left side of Freefall, and it was calling my name! I did a nonstop run down Freefall with a grin ear to ear. It was the best turns of the season for me so far. The depth of the snow, consistency of the snow, and steepness of the trail all did it for me! To make my day even better, I got to do a few runs with my daughter Hayleigh after school today. She was not sure that she wanted to go, but I told her if we did one run, I would get her a hot chocolate after. She agreed, and after the first run, she headed straight back to the lift. When we got back to my office, she said: “That was so much fun!”
Tomorrow, we plan to have top-to-bottom skiing and riding on all 3 mountains. We plan to have Madonna I Lift, Madonna II Lift, Sterling Lift, Village Lift, Mogul Mouse’s Magic Lift, and Sir Henry’s Glider all operating. We now have 70 trails open with terrain for all ability levels. 27 trails will be groomed for tomorrow, including Chilcoot, Smugglers’ Alley, and Sam’s Run, for a total of 117 acres of freshly groomed terrain. Surface conditions are packed powder and powder with average base depths of 16 to 40 inches. Currently, it is partly cloudy and -3 degrees at the summit of Sterling. Tomorrow’s forecast calls for snow showers with 1 to 2 inches of accumulation possible, with a high of 8 degrees at the base and 3 degrees at higher elevations. Dress warm and enjoy the amazing conditions!
