Smugglers' Club Rental Program (CRP) and Other Options

First introduced in 2015 as a “beta test” for Club Owners who could not use their ownership in a particular season, the Club Rental Program (CRP) allowed Club Owners to put their deeded home in the Smugglers’ regular rental program as a way to possibly offset the maintenance fee with some rental income. We continue to offer this turn-key program exclusively for our Club Owners.

A couple of years ago we expanded the dates of the program by adding the Float weeks to the Fixed weeks that are allowed in the rental pool. Fall weeks, in particular, are in high demand. Now, in order to bring the CRP in line with the Full Owner and Share Owner renter programs, we have made two more important updates as of Week 13, 2023. One is adjusting the rental income from a percentage of the weekly maintenance fee to 66% of the lodging rate paid by the guest. The second is to remit payments to Club Owners one month after the close of the month in which their week is rented rather than waiting until the end of the quarter.

When a Smugglers’ procured guest stays in your home, we will remit to the Owner, the payment of 66% of the amount paid by a renter, shown on the guest's invoice as the lodging charge for each day that the Unit was occupied by the renter.* Payment will be sent in the form of a check within 30 days after the end of the month in which the rental occurred.

We recommend you submit your application to us at a minimum of 60 days prior to your arrival date. You may submit your week closer to your arrival date; however the likelihood of receiving a rental is greatly diminished.

For each week that you wish us to rent, you will need to complete the Club Owner to Smugglers' rental agreement & W9.

NOTE: If you are not a citizen of the U.S. and wish to participate, you will need to fill out a W8-ECI.
See W-8ECI Instructions for more information. If you do not have a FTIN (Federal Tax Identification Number) you will need to apply for one. When you receive a FTIN you will have to fill out the W8-ECI form and return to us. This step is required in order to complete your Smugglers Notch Management Agreement contract.

The agreement contains exclusive, but not guaranteed, clauses regarding the rental of your home. Signed contracts and forms may be returned via email to contract@smuggs.com.

Priority of rental within any week will be according to the date the Owner commits the home to the CRP. If you have upgraded to Wyndham or RCI Points you must have reserved your deeded Club home prior to making it available to Smugglers' for rental.

If rental has not been achieved within 14 days of the week start date, the Owner may cancel the rental agreement upon written notice and occupy the home. Written notice must be sent to contract@smuggs.com.

Smugglers' reserves the right to deny entry into the program based on demand or timing of application or condition of the home or other business circumstances.

*The guest lodging charge is determined through detailed analysis of specific customer characteristics, willingness to pay, and ability to pay based on historical data and current economic trends. Our approach uses internet sources to create a conversation between the guest and our in-house professional rental agents. Our agents are dedicated to booking homes solely at Smuggs. They have performed this "High Touch" reservation method for many years. Our CRP creates a competitive advantage for the Owners who participate. Rental guest pricing is found on the Smugglers' Vacation Planner. It is the same rate for all homes of the same size and quality participating in our rental program. Guest promotions and discounts may apply to the lodging rate for certain dates and length of stays. Note: Smugglers' always adds tax and service charge to our packages and Smugglers' remits the tax to the state.

Other Options:

Rent/Gift/Donate the use of your home yourself
Advantage:
Use your own resources and connections to fill your deeded Club home as you wish. Owners may establish their own price for rentals and pay for online booking sites. Owners must manage the rental process including listing, booking, and collecting. State tax may be due from the owner for rental income. You may also gift the use of your deeded Club home to friends, relatives, or a charity. Your guests may purchase Daycation tickets when available in order to enjoy all of the benefits that Smuggs has to offer. A charity receives a complimentary SmuggsPass, plus Smugglers' donates ski tickets or Summer childrens' programs, subject to availability and the season. The charity will have to provide its non-profit EIN.

Disadvantage:
There will be a $50 tenant processing fee to partially offset the costs of extra internal record keeping. RCI charges $109 (as of 12/1/22) for similar service. This fee is waived for a charity. When you rent/gift/donate your deeded Club home, you lose the use of it for the week and your benefits are not transferable. Owners must inform their Tenants that access to Smuggs facilities is available only through the purchase of Daycation tickets. A limited number of these tickets are offered. This frequently results in dissatisfied guests.

Conditions:
The Owner will be required to complete a tenant contact information form for each stay prior to the check-in of their tenant. If your tenant is arriving within the next 7 days, please call Owner Services at 1-800-354-7884, in addition to completing this form. Smugglers' will email a welcome confirmation letter explaining the services and privileges available with a Daycation ticket. The tenant will be required to complete a Guest Certificate form and cannot check-in until it is completed. For a charity, the donating Owner and guest will complete a form acknowledging that there has been no compensation received for the use of the home. If at a later date it is determined that compensation has been received Smugglers' will assess a $2,000 fee in lieu of a charge of Theft of Services.

Use of the SWAP Column among and between fellow Owner
Advantage:
A convenient way to spend more time at Smugglers' or to be comfortable with knowing that another Club Owner is occupying your home.

Disadvantage:
A growing crowd using the column.

Conditions:
The SWAP Column will remain in effect with continued appropriate user information provided to Smugglers'. Owners may use their own benefits up to the number of days (usually 7) for each week of ownership.
