We are presently making snow on Curley’s Cutback, Log Jam, and Hibernator. These trails will be closed today. We received a dusting of new snow overnight and 24 inches in the past 8 days. Currently, it is cloudy and 12 degrees at the summit of Sterling with winds of 5 to 10 mph. Today’s forecast is calling for cloudy skies with snow developing late in the day with a high of 27 degrees at the base and 20 degrees at higher elevations. Tonight’s forecast is snow showers with 1 to 3 inches of accumulation possible. Today we have top-to-bottom skiing and riding on all 3 mountains with 6 lifts operating, including Madonna I. We have 67 trails open with terrain for all ability levels. 28 trails have been groomed for today for a grand total of 119 inches of freshly groomed terrain. Surface conditions are packed powder and machine groomed with average base depths of 8 to 30 inches. It’s going to be a little chilly Friday and Saturday. Today and Sunday will be more suited for the fair weather skier or rider, just saying.

The Nordic Center is open with 15 km of snowshoeing and 17 km of cross-country trails. The small ice rink is also open.

This weekend the featured beverage for the apres sports parties at Bootlegger’s and the Black Bear Tavern is Woodchuck.

We received a dusting to an inch of new snow overnight and 9 inches in the past 3 days. The Madonna II Lift and Sterling Lift will have a delayed opening this morning due to a cold hold. The Madonna I Lift will be on cold hold today. Morse Mountain lifts are now loading. We have 40 trails open with terrain for all ability levels. Surface conditions are variable and machine groomed with average base depths of 16 to 50 inches. 31 trails have been groomed for today, including Ruthie’s, Goat Path, Thomke’s, Smugglers’ Alley, Curley’s Cutback, and Snow Snake. Currently, it is snowing and -8 degrees at the summit of Sterling. Today’s forecast is calling for skies becoming partly sunny with a high of 17 degrees. Bundle up and enjoy the wonderful conditions.

Today we plan to have top to bottom skiing and riding on all 3 mountains with 5 lifts operating, including the Madonna I Lift. We have 71 trails open with terrain for all ability levels. Surface conditions are packed powder and powder with average base depths of 16 to 50 inches. 32 trails have been groomed for today, including Goat Path, Curley’s Cutback, and Jolly Rodger. Currently, it is snowing and 12 degrees at the summit of Sterling with winds of 10 to 20 mph. Today’s forecast is calling for snow showers with 2 to 4 inches of accumulation possible and a high of 31 degrees and breezy.

Powder Daze

We received snow every day for the past 9 days adding up to 35 inches! We received 5 inches of new snow in the past 24 hours. Tomorrow we plan to have top to bottom skiing and riding on all 3 mountains with 5 lifts operating including the Madonna I Lift. We have 72 trails open with terrain for all ability levels. Surface conditions are packed powder and powder with average base depths of 16 to 50 inches. 31 trails will be groomed for tomorrow, including Snow Snake, Curley’s Cutback, and Playground for a grand total of 122 acres of freshly groomed terrain. Tomorrow’s forecast is calling for cloudy skies early with a chance of snow showers then partly sunny skies in the afternoon with a high of 18 degrees.

Winter Playground

Rockin’ Ron for Hugh. Winter Recess is here. Time to PLAY in the SNOW! Two FEET of SNOW in the past week and snowmaking continues on Curley’s Cutback and Snow Snake. So children, come up and enjoy our winter Playground.

No pushing or shoving allowed on the Playground, but SKIING and RIDING permitted and encouraged.

Freshly groomed terrain and sunshine

Today we have skiing and riding on all 3 mountains with 4 lifts operating. We have 32 trails open with terrain for all ability levels. The Madonna I lift will not be open today. In the case of a lift evacuation, the icy surface on Madonna Liftline would make it hard to get the skiers and rider off the mountain safely. The Sterling Lift, Madonna II Lift, Village Lift, and Sir Henry’s Wonder Carpet are all operating. Surface conditions are machine groomed and variable with average base depths of 14 to 52 inches. 31 trails have been groomed for today, including McPherson’s, Curley’s Cutback, and Snake Bite for a grand total of 114 acres of freshly groomed terrain. Currently, it is sunny and 15 degrees at the summit of Sterling with winds of 10 to 20 mph. Today’s forecast is calling for mostly sunny skies with a high of 37 degrees.

Today we have top to bottom skiing and riding on all 3 mountains with 6 lifts operating, including the Madonna I Lift. We now have 69 trails open with terrain for all ability levels. Surface conditions are packed powder and machine groomed with average base depths of 14 to 50 inches. 31 trails have been groomed for today, including Shuttle, Curley’s Cutback, and Jolly Rodger for a grand total of 94 acres of freshly groomed terrain. Last night we made snow on Snow Snake, Log Jam, Hibernator, and the base area of the Village Lift. Currently it is sunny and 6 degrees at the summit of Sterling. Today’s forecast is calling for mostly sunny skies with a high of 25 degrees.

Snow showers are in the forecast Sunday morning starting after 7 am and will continue until Monday. Today we have top to bottom skiing and riding on all 3 mountains with 7 lifts operating, including the Madonna I lift. We have 49 trails open with terrain for all ability levels. Curley’s Cutback is now open and groomed. Surface conditions are packed powder and machine groomed with average base depths of 14 to 50 inches. 29 trails have been groomed for today, including Upper FIS, Thomke’s, and Hibernator for a grand total of 126 acres of freshly groomed terrain. Currently, it is partly cloudy and 24 degrees at the summit of Sterling with winds of 0 to 5 mph. Today’s forecast is calling for partly sunny skies with a high of 35 degrees.

Sun & Snow

Giant wave of snow crashes onto Smuggs

Today was gorgeous with the sunshine and fresh snow! The 1 to 2 inches of fluffy new snow that we received last night added nicely to the 23 inches of snow that we received in the past few days. There are some huge snow drifts. We are stock piling the snow so that we have a nice long season. The conditions are amazing with super deep base depths!

Lifts and Trails

We are 100 percent open! Tomorrow we plan to have top to bottom skiing and riding on all 3 mountains with 6 lifts operating, including the Madonna I lift. We have all 78 trails open with terrain for all ability levels. Freefall is open from the traverse on Upper FIS. I would like to thank Ski Patroller Ethan Costello for the trail maintenance work he did on the traverse. The snow is so deep, that it was hard to get under the branches on the traverse. Surface conditions are packed powder and powder with average base depths of 24 to 60 inches. We plan to groom 40 trails tonight, including Drifter, Shuttle, Snow Snake, Curley’s Cutback, Hangman’s Drop, and Upper Pipeline for a grand total of 148 acres of freshly groomed terrain.
