Today was gorgeous with the sunshine and fresh snow! The 1 to 2 inches of fluffy new snow that we received last night added nicely to the 23 inches of snow that we received in the past few days. There are some huge snow drifts. We are stock piling the snow so that we have a nice long season. The conditions are amazing with super deep base depths!
We are 100 percent open! Tomorrow we plan to have top to bottom skiing and riding on all 3 mountains with 6 lifts operating, including the Madonna I lift. We have all 78 trails open with terrain for all ability levels. Freefall is open from the traverse on Upper FIS. I would like to thank Ski Patroller Ethan Costello for the trail maintenance work he did on the traverse. The snow is so deep, that it was hard to get under the branches on the traverse. Surface conditions are packed powder and powder with average base depths of 24 to 60 inches. We plan to groom 40 trails tonight, including Drifter, Shuttle, Snow Snake, Curley’s Cutback, Hangman’s Drop, and Upper Pipeline for a grand total of 148 acres of freshly groomed terrain.

I would like you to meet Tom. Tom is from New Jersey and is here at Smuggs vacationing with his family. I was lucky enough to ride Mogul Mouse’s Magic Lift with Tom this morning. As soon as we got on the lift we hear “Hey Dad.” It was Tom’s daughter, who was taking a lesson on Sir Henry’s Learning Hill. Tom told me about the progress his daughter has made with her turns and that she is now skiing without a tie on her tips. Tom also told me that he is a member of the Central Jersey Ski Club. Tom has been to many resorts with the Club and one of the things that he likes most about Smuggs is the amazing terrain! Thank you for the entertaining lift ride Tom and enjoy your stay here at Smuggs!
I would like you to meet Sheena Petal and her 1 year old daughter Addie. Four years ago on a very cold day Addie’s parents Sheena and Jay took a Cat Trax Tour to the top of Madonna Mountain. I was on that Cat Trax Tour with Sheena and Jay. When we got in the heated cabin of the groomer they informed us that they were going to get married on top of the mountain. They had a Justice of the Peace along with them to perform the ceremony. I remember joking with them on the cat ride up the mountain that it was not going to rain on your wedding day. It was a beautiful ceremony and one I will never forget. The funny thing is last night on the Cat Trax Tour up Madonna Mountain, I was telling the story of Sheena and Jay getting married when it was -25 degrees. Then today I ran into Sheena and Addie in front of Treasures Day Care. I told Sheena that I was just talking about you! Sheena and Jay have been coming to Smuggs ever since getting married here. Sheena and Addie were going to check out Treasures Day Care, so that Mommy and Daddy could go make some turns. It was wonderful to run into you and Addie today!

There is snow in the forecast for Sunday with up to 3 inches of accumulation possible. There is also a chance of a snow storm Tuesday into Wednesday.
Boy and Girl sittin’ on the Lift. What will they get for gifts? 3 Mountain Outfitters coats to wear? Lake Champlain Chocolates, or Vermont Teddy Bears?
Rockin’ for Hugh for Hugh. February has delivered 40″ of snow to our mountains! A recent freeze-thaw cycle has dropped our trail count from 100%, but the snow is still there. In the words of one of our Smugglers: “it’s Mother Nature’s way of preserving the goods”. Anticipated warmer temps and a little bit o’ snowfall should bring the numbers back up quite quickly. In the meantime, our Groomers are working their cats off!
Tomorrow is Valentines Day! To celebrate, we have some sweetheart deals at 3 Mountain Outfitters (clothing and more), the Perk & Country Store (sweets and treats), and at our Ticket Booths (Lift Ticket specials). Who will you take on a date?
In honor of the Winter Olympics, the Activities Department has come up with daily Winter Games (through February 24th). Fun challenges for the whole family. Go for the GOLD and free HC at the Hot Chocolate Warm Up.
BTW – Hugh took the photos. All I have left to say is #smuggslove.
