Snow-eating Grins

Rockin’ Ron for Hugh. Valentine’s Day brought some sweet powder and warm temps. 4 inches of new snow fell on top of Madonna Mountain overnight and temps were between 25-30 degrees. Seth “Carv-ison” and I met at the Base Lodge to take runs on Madonna and Sterling. I was able to introduce him to Highlander Glades, Poachers Woods, Upper Pipeline, and Gary B’s – trails he’d never been on. We ran into Nick from Smuggs TV and took the classic Upper FIS to Lower Doc’s run. What a day to play in the powder! Plenty o’ snow and plenty o’ grins!

The Madonna I Lift is on cold hold. We have 77 skiable trails and 64 lift accessible trails open today. The Madonna II lift will open at 11:00 am today. Surface conditions are packed powder and machine groomed with average base depths of 16 to 54 inches. Last night we made snow on Mulcahy’s Link and Lower Madonna Liftline. 34 trails have been groomed for today, including McPherson’s, Wanderer, and Black Snake for a grand total of 139 acres of freshly groomed terrain. Currently it is cloudy and -9 at the summit of Sterling. Today’s forecast is calling for a chance of a snow showers early then mostly sunny skies with a high of 5 degrees. Bundle up, cover up, and enjoy the great conditions!

Lifts and Trails

Tomorrow we plan to have top to bottom skiing and riding on all 3 mountains with 6 lifts operating, including the Madonna I lift. We have 48 trails open with terrain for all ability levels. Surface conditions are machine groomed and variable with average base depths of 20 to 50 inches. 42 trails will be groomed for tomorrow, including Upper FIS, Jolly Rodger, and Dixie’s Knoll for a grand total of 151 acres of freshly groomed terrain.

Weather

Currently it is 4 degrees at the summit of Sterling with sunny skies and winds of 5 to 10 mph. Tomorrow’s forecast is calling for snow developing late in the day with 1 to 2 inches of accumulation possible and temperatures between 10 and 20 degrees. Snow continues into Wednesday night with 6″ to 10″ tomorrow night, 3″ to 5″ during the day on Wednesday, and another 1″ to 3″ inches Wednesday night!

Updates and Dates

Rockin’ for Hugh for Hugh. February has delivered 40″ of snow to our mountains! A recent freeze-thaw cycle has dropped our trail count from 100%, but the snow is still there. In the words of one of our Smugglers: “it’s Mother Nature’s way of preserving the goods”. Anticipated warmer temps and a little bit o’ snowfall should bring the numbers back up quite quickly. In the meantime, our Groomers are working their cats off!

Tomorrow is Valentines Day! To celebrate, we have some sweetheart deals at 3 Mountain Outfitters (clothing and more), the Perk & Country Store (sweets and treats), and at our Ticket Booths (Lift Ticket specials). Who will you take on a date?

In honor of the Winter Olympics, the Activities Department has come up with daily Winter Games (through February 24th). Fun challenges for the whole family. Go for the GOLD and free HC at the Hot Chocolate Warm Up.

We received 2 inches of new snow in the past 24 hours and 28 inches in the past week. Tomorrow we plan to have top to bottom skiing and riding on all 3 mountains with 6 lifts operating, including the Madonna I Lift. We have 78 trails open with terrain for all ability levels. 29 trails will be groomed for tomorrow, including Upper Chilcoot, Black Snake, and Curley’s Cutback for a grand total of 122 acres of freshly groomed terrain. Tomorrow’s forecast is calling for cloudy skies early then partly sunny skies later with a high of 26 degrees.
