On the “Family Resort” front, it was great to see Sarah and meet her Boston University friends the other day. I’ve known her since she was a 5 year old in Discovery Camp. Welcome Back, Sarah!

Spring roll

It was another great day of spring skiing and riding. I want to thank our groomers for doing a great job on Smugglers’ Alley last night. I had my stiffer skis on this morning and Smugglers’ Alley was my trail of choice. Beautiful corduroy to cruise on! Once the snow started to soften up I switched to a wider, softer ski and went looking for the corn. Patrol dropped the rope on Thomke’s Express and Bootlegger from the work road. I had to ski them and had a blast. I would have to say that my favorite run in the afternoon was Snake Bite. It has not been groomed in a while and it has some nice big soft bumps!

Tomorrow we plan to have the Sterling Lift operating with 15 trails open. We only have intermediate and expert terrain available at this time. Some trails will have a delayed opening until they soften up. 9 trails will be groomed for tomorrow, including Smugglers’ Alley, Black Snake, Birch Run, Practice Slope, and Rumrunner for a grand total of 37 acres of freshly groomed terrain. It is currently sunny and 41 degrees at the summit of Sterling. Tomorrow’s forecast is calling for mostly sunny skies with of high of 61 degrees at the base and 52 degrees in the higher elevations.

Weather dependent, we plan to stay open until Sunday, April 11th. The Madonna I Lift and Sterling Lift may be operating for closing weekend. The forecast for Sunday, April 11th is partly sunny skies with a high of 61 degrees.

Uphill access

Morse Mountain will be closed for uphill access Monday, February 8th through Wednesday, February 10th due to snowmaking operations. We have adjusted our grooming schedule to open uphill access on Madonna those same three nights from 6 to 9 pm only.  Please be respectful and keep your distance from any snowcats you should encounter. People skiing behind snowcats with headlamps on are especially distracting to the operator as your lights flash in their mirrors.  This presents a hazard to you and the cat operator!

Sterling Mountain daily from 5:30 am till 7:00 am. On open trails and off the mountain by 8:00 am.

Time to reflect

Today’s weather was cloudy skies with flurries early in the day. Then partly sunny skies with warmer temperatures. Most of Morse Mountain was spring conditions. The upper mountains softened on the bottom half. The groomed terrain softened up nicely. I snowboarded this morning on Morse and skied in the afternoon on the upper mountains. Smugglers’ Alley was a bunch of fun today. Black Snake was in the sun this afternoon and it softened up for some nice turns.

Weather permitting tomorrow we plan to have top to bottom skiing and riding on all 3 mountains with 7 lifts operating, including the Madonna I Lift. We plan to have 40 trails open with terrain for all ability levels. Surface conditions are machine groomed and variable with average base depths of 14 to 52 inches. We should see spring conditions tomorrow, especially at lower elevations. 34 trails will be groomed for tomorrow, including Snow Snake, Playground, and Smugglers’ Alley for a grand total of 132 acres of freshly groomed terrain. Currently, it is partly cloudy and 28 degrees at the summit of Sterling with winds of 5 to 10 mph. Tomorrow’s forecast is calling for cloudy skies, rain, and breezy with a high of 44 degrees. Some lifts may be on wind hold tomorrow. Please check the report in the morning for the latest information.
