Mike with two of his sons at the summit of Sterling

I would like you to meet Mike and his family, who are from Philadelphia. I was about to get on the Sterling Lift this afternoon as a single rider when Mike skied up and joined me. We had a great conversation on the chair lift ride. Mike told me that he and his family have been coming to Smugglers’ Notch for 23 years! Mike went on to tell me how much he and his family enjoy skiing here at Smuggs. He also said that all of his kids have taken ski lessons here. The best part is that Mike did not recognize me until we were almost to the top of Sterling. It wasn’t until he asked me what I do here at Smuggs. Another thing Mike told me was that how happy it makes him that his grown kids would rather ski with their father and siblings then to ski with their friends. It was wonderful to meet you and your family Mike. Enjoy the rest of your stay and we look forward to your return.

Lifts and Trails

Tomorrow we plan to have top to bottom skiing and riding on all 3 mountains with 7 lifts operating, including the Madonna I Lift. We have 77 out of 78 trails open with terrain for all ability levels. Surface conditions are packed powder and powder with average base depths of 24 to 54 inches. We plan to groom 40 trails tonight including Drifter, Smugglers’ Alley, and Snow Snake for a grand total of 150 acres of freshly groomed terrain.

Callen and Aaron on Snow Snake

I would like you to meet Callen and his dad Aaron. They are from Toronto and this is their first time visiting Smugglers’ Notch. I was in line to get on Mogul Mouse’s Magic lift this morning when I heard someone say “That run was so much fun!”  I turned to ask “Which run did you take?”  Aaron told me that they took a right when they got off at the top of Mogul Mouse’s Magic lift.  I told them that trail is called Snow Snake and is one of my favorites on Morse Mountain.  Aaron told me, “That they really enjoyed the features of the trail and the new snow!”  Aaron said that they are having a wonderful time exploring Smuggs and they are definitely coming back! Welcome to the Smuggs Family Callen and Aaron. Enjoy your vacation and we look forward to your next trip back here at Smuggs!

I would like you to meet Evan, who is from St. Albans. He learned how to ski here at Smuggs when he was 3 years old and has been skiing here ever since. Evan’s favorite run is Upper FIS to Lower Doc Dempsey’s Glades. He is here today with some friends. They all rode the St. Albans Area Rotary Bus to Smuggs together. Evan also told me that he comes up to Smuggs to ski with his younger brother and mother. Have a great day on the slopes Evan and enjoy the fantastic conditions!

Tom at the top of the Mogul Mouse’s Magic Lift

I would like you to meet Tom. Tom is from New Jersey and is here at Smuggs vacationing with his family. I was lucky enough to ride Mogul Mouse’s Magic Lift with Tom this morning. As soon as we got on the lift we hear “Hey Dad.” It was Tom’s daughter, who was taking a lesson on Sir Henry’s Learning Hill. Tom told me about the progress his daughter has made with her turns and that she is now skiing without a tie on her tips.  Tom also told me that he is a member of the Central Jersey Ski Club. Tom has been to many resorts with the Club and one of the things that he likes most about Smuggs is the amazing terrain! Thank you for the entertaining lift ride Tom and enjoy your stay here at Smuggs!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAI ran into retired longtime Smuggs employees Bob Mulcahy and Barbara Thomke today at the top of the Village Lift. Bob use to be President and Barbara was the Public Relations Director both here at Smuggs. Have you heard of Mulcahy’s Link or Thomke’s Express? It was wonderful to see these two out having fun on the slopes with friends and family.

Lunch on the Black Bear Patio with the Cohens. Barry is a big fan of the Hot Chocolate and Anna and Jade like the Chipotle Tomato soup.

Rockin’ Ron for Hugh. I spent day 2 skiing with my friends the Cohens from Philadelphia, PA. I met them 15 years ago during their summer week at Smuggs. Then we skied together when they came up the following winter and just about every winter since. We’ve also enjoyed Smuggs events together like the Top of Notch Snowshoe Dinner, Marko’s Magic Shows, and Goodtime Charlie shows. They are proud long-time Smugglers. On my way to meet them I saw another long-time Smuggler, Anna Willis. In the past 8 years, she’s worked in several departments.

Jade

Jade is all smiles as she gets ready to ski Smugglers’ Alley and then Poachers Woods.

Jade Poachers 1

Jade is picking her lines in Poachers Woods. This was our trail pick today.

Anna

Long-time Smuggler Anna Willis has worked at Treasures Child Care, the Country Store, and now she’s a LIFTIE! Not only that, she’s been skiing and riding here for 15 years (that’s over two thirds of her life).
