Brewster Ridge Update!

NEWS & NOTES FROM A REFLECTIVE WEEK:

Brewster Ridge has been enjoying the best summer of its existence this year. That’s not just a good thing, it’s a necessary thing seeing how young the course is. In our second full year of operation, we’ve seen our day pass visits triple! We are seeing over 200 rounds per week and most all of those are paid rounds. We also have seen strong disc sales as plastic (and some rubber) is flying off the shelves.

However, despite the good 1st half of the summer, we are gearing up to make a new push next week. Here are a couple things to keep an eye out for in the next week:

  • BRDGs 1st GLOW ROUND – Friday – 8:30pm – The Village 9 – park in the main Smugglers’ lot.
    • We have bought the glow material and prepped the Village Nine, now all that is left is for you to come out and experience it! Our Pro Shop Manager Drew Tolbert has gone all out for this one and it should be a really great looking course! The best scores will get prizes and we have TONS of glow discs for sale and purchase. $10 for a round!
  • Promotion for the Green Mountain Championship (September 19-21) Ratchets Up
    • Our first PDGA A-Tier event, the GMC has a big cash purse and the crew is working hard to put the finishing touches on the projects we need to complete before the event. Set to draw the best disc golfers in the world to our beautiful corner of Vermont, the event will also transcend disc golf and include MUSIC, CRAFT BREW, and MOUNTAIN BIKING sessions and group rides. We are aiming to draw in over 500 people for this one, get ready for a good time! Disc golfers; register HERE. Interested in staying at the resort for weekend of fun-filled action? Call Jason Nieme, group sales rep, at 802-644-1060. Jason has rooms available at a special event discount!
  • The Rekindling of the fire that is BRDGC LEAGUE!!!
    • If there is one thing, and one thing only that you should do, it is this: come to BRDGC league this Sunday at 1:00pm! This league has a truly magnificent set up, but we have had luster-to-lackluster participation thus far. It’s not too late people! We are only 4 weeks in, with league round #5 coming straight at you like a bullet train to your dreams. There are 12 weeks of play, and your top 5 results count. We score point series style, and if you don’t know what that means, click the link above and read about the details. Our final message is this: anyone can win this thing. We use the staggered tee system as our way to handicap. The top 14 competitors will qualify for the 1st BRDG Match Play Championship to determine this year’s club champion!
  • New Discs Arriving Next Week
    • It seems as though we’ve been waiting centuries, but orders are on the way and next week we will be sporting new discs from MVP, Westside, Legacy, Latitude 64, and Dynamic along with new DG bags, towels. Next Thursday we are looking to hold a special round of doubles. If you stop by, you will be sure to get to peruse this gigantic shipment of new discs. Who doesn’t like checking out some new plastic!?

That’s it for now! We hope to see you soon at Brewster Ridge!

Sunday at the Maple Hill Open, with Brewster Ridge DG

A look at the beautiful pond on the first hole at Maple Hill Disc Golf Course.

Well, Sunday is here and the Brewster Ridge team has had great success throughout the week promoting the Green Mountain Championship, our 1st PDGA A-Tier event at the Maple Hill Open. I rebounded from a first day 75 to throw 66 & 67 in rounds 2 and 3. While both rounds were rated around 980, I felt like I left a lot of strokes on the course. Low 60s is out there for me if I just clean up those two round a bit.  Though there wasn’t much hope for the cut after the 75 in round 1, I feel encouraged with rounds in the mid-60s. I know that in the future, the low 60s are very doable and I look forward to making another run at it next year.

In other news, I am back on the bag for Steve Brinster, reigning United States Disc Golf Champion. After round three, Steve is on the chase card, sitting 4 strokes back of the leader Jeremy Koling. With 8 players within 4 of the lead, it should be a tremendously exciting final round. My thoughts on Steve’s chances… Steve can go low out here. A round in the 40s wouldn’t surprise anyone, coming from Steve. I believe he is coming in confident and ready to go low, post a number, and see if the lead card can match it. I  also noted Ricky Wysocki’s hot round of 52 from yesterday has many thinking that he could be poised to go low again. Scoring conditions are prime as the wind of Saturday has died down leaving a gorgeously sunny day in the mid-70s. Will Brinster be able to charge back into a winning position or with Jeremy Koling hold off the field and keep his slim lead? A growing crowd of spectators awaits the tee time for the leaders and the excitement to follow.

Brewster Ridge Disc Golf is happy to be a vendor for this great event and is excited for the strong field of pros that is shaping up for our own event, the Green Mountain Championship this September 19th-21st!

Brewster Ridge is at the Maple Hill Open – PDGA National Tour Event!

It is Day #1 at the Maple Hill Open and it is hot! Despite the humidity we are seeing some amazing disc golf from the best players in the world. Through 5:00pm, there is a surprise leader! Dutch Napier has thrown a nine-under 51, featuring an ace on Hole #8, a 320 ft shot entirely over water! A familiar name is on his heels, former champion Cale Leiviska, who looked entirely at home on this 8,215 foot monster layout shooting a cool eight down 52.

Just behind those leaders we have Jason Dore, a competitor in the 2013 Green Mountain Open at Smugglers’ Notch. Jason came in with a 5-down 55. Steve Brinster, another past GMC competitor is at 3 under on the back nine. Defending champ and 2X defending world champ Paul McBeth is also at 3-under as he approaches the home stretch.

As the Brewster course pro I struggled all day on my way to carding a 75. I needed a big turnaround to get back into mix for the cut-line, but I’m hopeful. It was tough out there today. I felt a bit out of sync. I didn’t have any timing or rhythm and on a course like this, with so much danger, you have to be on point. I feel like I can play right around par, and I’m looking forward to starting fresh tomorrow and trying to claw my way back towards the cut. The MHO cut is made after the third of four rounds. I will need two rounds of par or better to have a chance to make the Saturday cut line and play in the final round on Sunday as early projections have the cut at 12-over par.

In the meantime, Pro Shop Manager Drew Tolbert is promoting Brewster’s PDGA A-Tier slated for September 19th-21st at Smugglers’ Notch Resort. With Steve Brinster and Ricky Wysocki already in, the team will look to fill the event with more of the best golfer’s in the world for Vermont’s biggest event of the season. Check back in tomorrow for more from Maple Hill!

Brewster Doubles at 6:15pm Tonight (7/1)

Come on out to the Brewster Ridge Pro Shop for a fun round of doubles play at 6:15 tonight! Normally 5:30 pm, we have delayed the start to let families watch the USA World Cup game before hitting the course. Doubles rounds are played in teams of two. Both players throw from the tee to start each hole. After assessing their throws, the team picks the disc in the best position and both teammates get to throw from that spot! This continues until the hole is finished. Doubles is traditionally lots of fun since you don’t have to play from a bad lie.

So, grab a partner after the USA game and head out to the pro shop. No partner? No worries, we will pair you up with someone! See you tonight, and go USA!
